I refilled with some fuel today at the server and was handed a 1966, 20 cent coin. It was very dirty looking and old. I showed it to a mate that told me it could possibly have some value, so I instantly googled on the phone. It was annoying to discover that it was not something special, but I did not know about the 'wavy' 20 cent coin until that day. Many more people know what I am talking about? I wish it was one of them but oh well...

Interesting. I did not know of the 'wavy" 20 cent coin either. Thanks for sharing. I'll have to keep my eye out for them.

Haha I don't know how many 66 coins I've looked at while playing with the tills in various roles, hundreds probably. I'm always looking at the $1 coins for a Mule coin but I suspect they never made it to far out of Perth. Good luck mate, I reckon there's a better chance of hitting a $300 nuggy than a well circulated 66 wavy but you never know. ... :D

Yep I just went and searched my "silver " money box , lol
Of 104 20 cent coins in there I had one 1966 , and of course you guessed it , it wasn't a wavy dammit......

let's not forget that in these hard times many people dig around for a few dollars to get that well kneeded loaf of bread and sometimes they dig out those elusive coins that have been secreted away by grandad or grandma and spend them without a second thought ,or even a second glance.
Here is a 2007 50c error coin(or type) that someone spent and I picked up in my change by being vigilant, not sure just how much they are worth.
the one I'm talking about is on the left.
you can't tell anything from the heads side at all

but you can see the differences on the tails side

here is a closer shot.

and here is the money shot
1st the kangaroos back

and 2nd the emus legs and the zero from the fifty and around the bottom of the five

That's the way to tell them from a normal 2007 50c piece.
I hope you all have a bit of luck with picking up a few of these to put them away before everybody starts to look for them, because once they all start looking you wont see them for dust.

Glad I was able to share something I discovered with all of you, I thought that it would be something well known. Awesome!
( Hmm just realised my first post here says "server", that was meant to be a fuel refill at the "servo"!

Cheers for adding another example of another coin fault, I guess anyone can upload images related to the post to let us know these micro faults!

I recon you might have started something good here AtomRat who knows what little gems we might all learn about from each other on the Forum that we can search out in our change.
One rule of thumb to follow is to put your new change in one pocket and only put it in the other pocket(to spend) once it has been checked, and have the good ones written down until you know what you are looking for.

Oh damn i found a very old 20c coin the other day but used it to pay for something. Darn

And so was this one. One side brown the other silver. Thanks for the awareness of these coins

Sorry Sandta, and everyone else it's daytime now,...so here are three new pictures with the one to look for on the left and the normal 2007 50c on the right(all in natural light).

I hope this clarifies it properly and makes it easier to spot the differences.

Might have something to do with all that coal you're probably humping around to throw.

The chances of finding one are low. It was an error coin minted in the uk for the reserve bank
