a friend has a badge or brooch that we would like to identify the pics that I have are to big a file to post so I will try to explain it as good as possible.
it is in the shape of Australia it has the coat of arms with advance scrolled under the emu and Australia scrolled under the roo. it looks very old and has a ropey finish around the outside.
on the back it reads , bo No.517208 made in England...... Gilt

that is in the center of the Australia shape but the animals have a coat of arms between them. someone else has said it looks like a nsw sstate crest. im trying to minimise the file
 
funny back,... could that be a clip on,... like a cuff link of some sort into a leather work type clip ? :|

Perhaps an alternative version of the above 1878 centenary badge?
On searching for Advance Australia coat of arms there are plenty of similar images

But not a lot of info.
It appears that it may have been used as our coat of arms (or variations of) before the first official 1908 Commonwealth Coat of Arms?
