Nenad, can I run the 5000 on 5 or 6 RX and stab. On say 12 or 14, and Quiet audio, I'm using the 12 EVO. The ground is still wet and most likely going to get wetter. I am getting a lot of ground noise and digging holes for zilch. I was told to put on the 11 inch standard mono but that didn't seem to work either.

Just out of interest, so far with my 14/9 evo I've found nearly all my gold, the 15 open, only 4 bits, but I use the 14/9 a lot more.https://www.prospectingaustralia.com/forum/img/member-images/6002/1474328528_img_20160920_091135.jpg

Aye Dave, that coil would be a bit lighter if ya washed the dirt off of it,

Actually mate don't wash it off then you will be fit enough for when you buy a Zed, lol

Mate, last trip, when I got back to my car, I was suffering heat exhaustion. Proper, sluring words, headache, nausia, last thing I thought about was using water for anything but drinking. My offsider quit 3 hours before me, and cramped up in the car, 2hours on the way home, I was genuinely worried about him. We both drank 6 Lt of water out there, wish I had 10./ I very nearly got lost on the way back to my car, if I didn't have phone coverage, for my GPS, or had a flat battery, it could have been real bad. I'm going again tomorrow, lots more water, taking a tarp to put up on the patch for shade. Also taking electrolytes. I was stuffed for 2 days after the last trip. I'm also no mug, spent 8 years as a paratrooper carrying much heavier loads, gos to show what heat alone, and stubbornness can do!

Nenad, with the ground the way it is, how would the 14 x 9 NF advantage compare with the 14 x 9 EVO. I thought while everything is so wet it might the way to go until things dry up?

Need to find a lot more yellow before I consider a Z! Goal tomorrow is 4 grams for a set of SS300 headphones.

I'm kinda thinking along the same lines mate.
Taking my 14x9 evo tomorrow, but also taking 15x12 commander instead of 15 round evo.

Yeah Dave no Gold is worth that, when I was working out west, East from where you are, I use to drink easy 10 to 15 ltrs a day and even then I still could not quench my thirst, 12/14 hour days nearly done me in.

Now I work out how much I need and Double it and then some,

Stay safe mate,

John.

Be careful out there Dave mate, that sounds a bit full on when you still have to drive home afterwards.
Clean metal detectors... meh. Usually because they get kept in the hall cupboard and don't get used :)

Yes that will work perfectly fine. With your Rx Gain that low, and running quiet Audio, go to Slow motion as well. Stabilizer 13 or higher preferably.
Any lower than 5 on the Rx, go to Enhance instead of Fine Gold and get the Rx back up.

The Advantage will run a little smoother if both are on the same settings, but I'd still prefer to run the Evo on tamer settings.

Hey Davent, when you talk about heat exhaustion, I wandered how hot day was that?
Just planning a trip and forecast shows 35-38 during day.Not sure how I will handle that much heat.
At about 38 I can imagine that prospecting stops to be a fun :(
Cheers

Davent you might have forgotten to probably add a few decades of age to the equation as to reasons for being stuffed for a few days afterwards  Was amazed when at Long Gully recently that went thru over 50 litres of drinking water alone whilst there and was taking out over 2 litres each trip from camp. They say if you feel thirsty your already dehydrating ..................... could bet we all go way past the feeling thirsty bit before we actually do drink.
:)

Luke, it said 34 on the weather report. Very humid, and very steep hills. Humidity is the killer. I can lose 3 kg a day detecting, and that's drinking a fair bit. From 11am till 2 ish, is a good time to find some shade. Today was the same, but we had cloud cover, feel much better today, drank 6 Lt water, 1.5 kg lighter than I was this morning.

Played around with settings today. At one stage I ran in quiet, had stab at 11 and gain at 15! 1st time ever. However, did not find one piece after about 11am. Just watched my mate dig 20 for the day with his z. Went back to factory preset, and ran with that for a bit, then tried normal....impossible, back to enhance. Only thing I didn't chagr, and it was too late when I realized, was threshold, maybe too loud....

davent, if you don't already add some electrolyte to some of your litres of water....6-10 litres of water only when sweating out so much salt will make you hyponatraemic!

davent,

My mates favourite coil on his 4500 in Enhance has been the early white NF solid Fibreglass 10" round mono which has found him plenty of nuggets both small and larger and at good depths. Recently due to 10" round having so much use over the years it has become noisier to use and now changed to another white earlier series NF mono the 4 spoke 14" x 9" which is producing nuggets as well for him.

I expect those 20 nuggets that the Z got that you speak of were small and too deep for your 4500 in Enhance with the 14" x 9" Evo?

They weren't real deep, but most were in clay, whitish clay, maybe 100mm deep, occasional one at 250mm. so not real deep at all.
Ground wasnt too bad either, my machine just didnt pick them up as well. I was going very slowly, and methodically as well. Only thing I didnt adjust.....was the threshold, and in hindsight, that could well have been it, as the ones i found had strong sharp signals that were way above the threshold. I reckon I had it too loud in hindsight, and the sneaky ones didnt get above the threshold, or didnt immediately repeat, and I probably ignored it as a emi.

Thanks for the suggestions re the coils though!

Had a go the same area, went audio quiet, sens smooth, stab 7 gain 9 threshold just humming smoothly, picked up my smallest piece ever, 0.07

Had more trouble finding it in the spoil than the ground, a couple of inches deep.

Davent
That's amazing.
Phasetech mentioned to me that if you run Sensitive Smooth and Quiet Audio you are running a double whammy of noise reduction and also depth reduction. He suggested not running both together. However a 0.07 at 2" is pretty good. You may have been missing small stuff just that little bit deeper. Something to try out. I don't know why Minelab don't put this stuff in their user manuals.
Cheers

Yep, running bad depth reduction for sure, and finding NO gold at all, as the signals from these little bits are just there. I have gone over this patch with every setting combo I could try with no results, until I tried this combo. Got 3 bits straight away. Going to go again tomorrow and I just got some new, more sensitive headphones to add to it.
