Apologies Russ for my post inferring that you may have been only interested in finding larger nuggets and it was incorrect of me to assume that. Understanding that the Smithers post with the good sized wedderburn nugget was from 2013 and who Grappys is puts it into a better context.
It’s something I have a habit of doing to caution people relatively new to prospecting about in the hope that they lower expectations and not give the game away too soon If early expectations are not met.

No worries at all Hawkear, I’m a realist at best and all I’ve seen recently on any site is small pickers and what I would term gold dust

Went out for another hunt yesterday with the 6. Decided to do a bit of filming for a clip and stopped at an old timers pile that I’d worked to death over the years. Just planned to film an introduction at that particular point and do a quick run over the mullock heap as I knew there would be no gold left there. Over the years I’ve run a 5000, zed, 2300 and even an equinox over that mound. It has been raked and gridded quite a few times. About 6 weeks ago, I ran the 6k meticulously over the pile for half an hour and found 3 small pieces. That goes to show how good the machine is on small gold. Yesterday I was using the Coiltek Goldhawk 10x5 and thought that I’d swing it for a while to see if it could squeeze out just one more small piece. What I found was really surprising. After a good hunt, I ended up with 10 pieces from that mound. They were very small but gold is gold. Here’s the final result for the day out. All those bits for .68 grams.

I should have the clip up in a day or so. Might even post a user report on the 10x5 coil if I get a chance.

Hi, interested to know after you used the SDC especially, how deep were those extra pieces? With that coil how much deeper than SDC...1-2inches?

Long time between posts, Picked up this 7g nugget with the 6k from an old patch.
Thought I had cleared this out with the Zed but managed this one and 4 other sub grammers in a short couple hour session.

Hi Aaron. It’s a bit hard to say as to how depth compares between the machines as I haven’t tried to test the 6k against the SDC. The 6k does find gold much deeper but it would be difficult to quote numbers due to a whole bunch of variables such as ground type, nugget size, shape and porosity, emi, settings used, the person operating the machine etc. Its more that the 6000 is seeing bits that the SDC can’t see easily or at all. It picks up minute pieces of gold at surprising depth. As an example, here is what I picked up this morning in an area that I’d spent a whole winter detecting with the SDC. The two biggest pieces would have been difficult to find with the 2300 as they were very deep and the other pieces are just fly sh#t. All up there is just over .6 of a gram.

Yeah mate WA, managed 61g this trip for just over a weeks work. Biggest was 29g with the 7g 2nd biggest. I have spent plenty of time in Vic finding the sub .1 grammers too

This bit of quartz was giving a signal the other day so I crushed it and got this speck.
Still have a bit more to pan but I'd be surprised if anything more is in there. I'm rich lol

Leave it as it is............Enough gold showing that its weight is nearly all gold........Once cleaned it can not be returned to original condition, but it can be cleaned when needed if left as is. What a terrific specimen of a nugget.

Worked hard yesterday for a few pieces. In some places it was hard to get the coil on the ground. As usual, the vines, ferns and wattle saplings were a pain. It’s a real test of a persons temperament. There were a couple of times that the savage beast was unleashed……

Went to a different area for a swing on Saturday with my mate. Decided to get the zed out for a change to see if there was any deeper, bigger bits around. A bit of rain the night before made the machines noisy in some of the wet, mineralised areas. The detectors started to behave themselves as the sun dried things up. I’d forgotten how pleasant the zed is to swing. Sure it’s heavier but that also works in your favour as you push the coil through grass and weeds. I noticed a small cleared area that I’d pulled a piece of gold from using the 6 about two months ago. It was an area about two metres long by 1m wide. I remember spending a considerable amount of time thoroughly detecting that area with the 11” coil after finding that speck of gold. Nothing else turned up. About 3 weeks ago I decided to put the Goldhawk coil over the same area as it’s sensitivity would give it an advantage on really small micro bits of gold. Nothing turned up. When I ran the 7 over the same spot, I did so fairly quickly as I wasn’t expecting any action. Was really surprised when I heard a soft but sweet little signal through the headphones. Couldn’t believe what I was hearing. Ended up digging quite a deep hole for a long, thin and very small piece of gold. Why didn’t the 6 hear it? It was an obvious dig me target with the zed. I walked away scratching my head. I wandered over to another small area that I’d previously pulled a couple of bits from using the 6. Again it was a small area that was very clean. I was looking at the back filled holes from my previous digs as I quickly ran the coil over the area. Couldn’t believe it as another signal turned up on the 7. It was an obvious, soft but clear sound coming out of the machine. Again a small piece of gold came out. Why? Why? Why? I don’t know. I am still throwing my arms up and looking to the heavens for answers. Perhaps it’s just different machines using different technologies. Anyway, good on the old zed. After a break the 6 was given a run and a couple of pan sized flakes turned up to finish off the day.

Perhaps the GPX6000 is just making too much noise for you to hear those faint signals. My brother and I have both swapped from the 6000 when the ground noise, EMI and hot rocks were too much for the 6000. On those same patches the GPX4500 and GPZ7000 ran smoothly.
