Hi Folks,

Back to the same area again but pushing further into the bush. The Black Wattles are tall and skinny now. It’s a bit like peering through the bars of a jail cell. (Or so I’m told) A few of the old mounds are reasonably detectable so getting the coil to the ground is now a possibility. Managed to scratch up a couple of pieces that others had left for me. There’s enough value in that gold to buy a couple of litres of diesel. (Sorry, I shouldn’t brag) It won’t be long and a gram of gold will buy a just one litre of fuel.

Spent the day at the PMAV general meeting but couldn’t resist putting the 5000 in the back seat. An excellent meeting with interesting speakers and congratulation to the PMAV committee for organizing it.
Had a couple of hours after the meeting for a quick detect around Dunolly and got a few more for the jar.E54D4820-557A-4099-8DA8-32D620232BA5.jpeg

Just a couple today after attending the PMAV meeting yesterday and checking out the Dunolly Gold Festival, they had a fair crowd, hope it inspires them to keep it going and getting bigger.tempImageKxe457.png

Went out patch hunting with the 17x13 nf zed coil. 1st use for me today.
Didn't leave home until 2pm. Went walking up and down hills in stupid heat and humidity, grass is growing, but still young and easily pushed down. No gold on the fault I chose.
On the way home, stopped by an old patch. It gave up 23 tiny speccies before, no clean nuggets.
The coil was stable and I got 1 nice little half grammar right on dark, will go back again and have another look, it was pretty deep for it's size, but it was flat, in an area about 50m away from the patch itself.

You know, The whole purpose of yesterday was to give coil a good run.
I stupidly changed my rig for the day and used a small day pack instead of my usual vest, due to the heat. So couldn't compare exactly, dumb.
Any how, the weight didn't bother me at all. I honestly didn't notice a difference from swinging the 12" , I only used a bungy to a loop on my shoulder strap.
I did muck around with my settings a bit.
I used patch find mode in ground smoothing, I used to use it all the time as it does quieten down the threshold in my opinion, and I don't think I lose much depth. The 1/2 grammar I got was down about finger tips to elbow, under some pretty big quartz lumps and river wash.
I'm pretty keen to get back there actually, as I suspect there could be a decent lump around. Will need to do a lot more with it to know what it's really like. So far so good.
I did have trouble ground balancing for a while. Maybe pockets of hotter ground, not sure, but it was pretty noisy in places. I ended up running audio smoothing in low, and sensitivity in 14.

Found a nice bit not long ago that's probably about .2 of a gram. Then the detector was still signalling something there.
I'm thinking it's ground noise so I bend over for a closer look to find a few bits like this.
I haven't got a bucket with me and I'm about 400 metres from the car.
I'll probably come back tomorrow with a bucket and shovel.
See what's going on. 😆

My goodness!
What a fabulous find! Please let us know how you go on your return.
Very encouraging to see finds like this.

Have just dug up a bit of the area. Dug up a fair bit and I'm loathe to keep digging in this humidity.
Looks like I found a fluke bit of dirt yesterday.
Looks like the .28 bit I found yesterday was with that bit of dirt.
The big question is where that 'fluke' bit came from. Regardless of whether you found it in mullock/tailings or virgin ground, it looks to be rough, fragile material that can't have moved far from its source or it would have disintegrated. Prospecting can be a frustrating business, even when you find some gold! 🤔
