What a great day, better half had to go to Castlemaine shopping so I went along to drive her. Couldn't find a parking spot in the main street so I suggested that she should hop out and do the shopping and I would find a parking spot. Drove around for awhile and found a spot that was very quiet took the dogs for a walk and did a little detecting while waiting for her shopping trip to finish. What can I say love going shopping/detecting whatever. Found a nice couple of pieces in 40 minutes, walked the dogs and arrived back in time to pick her up. Castlemaine Gold again
i was detecting a creek a few days ago and i thought id check for any bench deposits. So in a suspect area i walked some distance up the hillside, had a good look around, and zero. No workings visible. But then looking closely around my feet i noticed some unusually mineralized soil, and some bedrock close to the surface, so i thought "What the hell, ill have a quick detect. 5 mins can't hurt". 5 mins later i had 2 rusty old square nails in hand, the type i find around OT's workings.....Where were they from? so i headed a little further up the hillside and BAM. There they were. Hidden over a crest, two tennis courts in area of workings-long hydraulic pit and shafts.
This was the first 2 hrs till I ran outa light....
I didnt get back there for a couple of days, my rationale being if no one had found them yet they were pretty safe for two more days. WRONG!
At the end of the second day I bumped into an old prospector in the middle of nowhere, friendly chap, turns out he had found them earlier that day! :awful: :argh:
Luckily, he said he didnt find anything!? Now a bit confused I didnt know what to expect when I returned.
Yeah I saw some evidence of some new scratchings, but about two shallow holes....
This is what I found the day I returned....
My PB 30 nuggs for the day.
Okay...which forum member just punched themselves in the face after reading that and recognizing that bandaid from a hand he shook on some random bloke he met up some random hillside near some random diggings last weekend?
Cheers Prospectors, and yes theres only one other fella that knows where that is, and hes pretty sure its empty . Saying that, I was having a conversation with a mate tonight about the one I walked past and he didnt
Was bloody hot but the secret was to get out at sunrise and pack it in by 11am and back to the vans air cond. Most found with the GPZ but snagged a couple with the SDC and the elliptical coil 14x9. Just picking up the bits Mad Tuna left behind when he used to roam these parts. :Y: :Y: :Y:
Sunrise, just about to head out.
Never too hot for ELEMENT 79
Typical looking country and diggings
And again.
And again.....
Beautiful gold out here.
Yummy......
Straight out of the ground before cleaning
Lost a bit due to iron stone and dirt attached, no match for Alibrite Bath. :goldnugget:
Getting harder to find and having to get more creative with the hunt. ickshovel:
Better half wanted a quick trip to Castlemaine to drop of a Library book. So I decide it was worth a quick stop over at the hill, 30 minutes and 2 pieces later.
Castlemaine Gold.
