Zircons can fluoresce yellow/ orange , some of the clear ones I have do very mildly. Diamonds can but are mostly bluish when under UV and only about 1 in 10 stones do brightly.

Heres a great link on coloured Diamond fluorescence. http://h-hjewellery.co.uk/about-us/diamond-fluorescence

I really hope they are Diamonds Varts and they very well may be but UV alone won't tell you, as a few gems will fluoresce the same colours. Really need a propper testing unit, it will tell you in about 2 seconds if they are the D word. Seeing about 10% seem to fluoresce pretty brightly I'd say it's looking like a good chance they are.

Thanks fellas red up on all these sites
Love the uv light :D

Hey heatho do your zircons glow?
Tried all my GG and oberon zircs and the fluroessence is very dark if any at all
And my nice red saph is exactly that,I was hoping ruby but not

I think they do very very slightly, the clear ones go a little milky under UV, the Red ones I think don't. They don't glow like the stones in your pic though. To be honest Varts the only gemstone I'd use UV to help with identification would be a suspected Ruby/Pink Sapph, these should glow due to the Chromium content.

Red/Pink Corundum is Ruby mate, it is a bit confusing though, even the experts have trouble defining between the two. It really just boils down to the Hue and Saturation of the Pink or Red, a light Pink stone would be Pink Sapph, a more saturated darker Pink or Red is Ruby. In both Ruby and Pink Sapph Chromium is the contaminant that gives the Pink/Red colour so really it's almost impossible to define the two as different stone as they are both Corundum with Chromium, just different amounts of Chromium.

Not all Red/Pink Corundum fluoresces either but I have not seen one yet that doesn't out of about 20 different ones I've seen.

Been re-doing a lot of images for my mineral collection site and just took a new and better quality photo of my 6.5cm Aquamarine crystal from Namibia. I bought it a while back for $18.00 ($32.00 including delivery). Bloody good bargin imo, I doubt I could get it for that price now!

Hey guys any ideas what the clear one is? These all come from Oberon Could these be cut? They aren't very big but still nice

I'm also find quite few there. They are too small to do SG test or scratch test. It may be quartz, but I'm not sure as I found them together with heavy once, zircon and sapphires.

So many nice pics, thought it about time i added a few.
Made it out to GG for the first time and managed a few bits. Couple of sapphire, and what i think is tourmaline and a couple of zircon.

These have a blue tinge one side but look like spinel on the other

The greens, tourmaline?

The blues, though one is green/blue/yellow

Nice to see you out and about, pics look great - top effort for your first gem hunt :) How is the Uni mate?

All good Ian, Monday (PH) has been wet, in fact the whole long weekend was suppose to rain so you managed to time it well :)

I'm crossing my fingers for you as well, it's a funny feeling waiting for the final marks. I've finished my UNI finally it's been a long 4 years and 000's later time will tell if it was worth it.

There is always next time mate :) take care
