Panning techniques and a few other questions?

Hi CAsper, We could be talking about the same thing from different angles??? Ok...so as I understand it (and I'm often wrong!) SG is the ratio between the weight of a substance and the weight of an equal volume of water at 4 degrees C. What I meant is that whilst water is used to calculate the...

Panning techniques and a few other questions?

The water has no bearing on the SG...with all respect to the fella who did the video. The water is used to create the right environment that allows the 'physics' to work and for the heavier bits and pieces to drop out. The fancy name for panning is 'wet gravity concentration'....the water is the...

    Metal Detector Question

righto.....I have played with the Kogan detector and to answer your question directly...you are wasting your time using it to find small gold. It will certainly find larger targets at or near the surface but I doubt you will be detecting in areas that may still contain them. On the positive side...

    Detecting In Copper/Gold Porphyry Area?

This seems like the smartest option....get someone off the forum to detect it for a %....then keep an eye on them!! No risk/outlay to you.

Difference between Mono and DD coils? When to use?

spot on. If you have the standard commander coils that came with the machine...start with them. There is almost no ground that a 5k and a 11" mono can't handle.

    Giving out locations

Lisa and I removed our Facebook account earlier this year....it may not be good for business but it is certainly a lot better overall. Too many keyboard experts and anger for my liking.

    can someone identify these plz

Hi Steete88, I am assuming your interested in the shiny bits in the quartz??? Can't tell 100% from the photo but looks like sulphides and not gold. You would need someone that can tell the difference to look at it through a loupe. Any geologist should be able to do that for you.

Minelab GPX6000 release, general information and questions

G'day Muk, Actually I'm not really a tinkerer! I play around with the harness set up and other things that make me comfortable during a detecting session. But as far as electronics and coils etc I usually leave things alone. I'm not a fan of detector modifications and I don't spend up big on...

Minelab GPX6000 release, general information and questions

Hi Muk.....I can't talk for others but I am not bagging Minelab....only detectors we use. However, the opinion I expressed holds true. Minelab have always produced the best electronics and have always had rubbish 'accessories' ie: harness....headphones etc. There have been exceptions to this but...

Minelab GPX6000 release, general information and questions

Minelab has been consistant for that 30 odd years.....great electronics and crap everything else...headphones...backpacks..ergonomics....of course I'm generalizing but I think it's a fair point. You know what....I don't buy detectors for anything other than the control box. Not that many years...

G'day mlee, You don't need to be paying for areas to prospect. Download 'Australian Geology Travel Maps' onto your phone.....pick a 'blue' tenement (pending) East of Leonora and go for it. Minelab GPX6000 release, general information and questions

Hi Ironrock....6 is quite different to the 45/5 from what I am hearing from my bush telegraph. Hopefully I am not telling you how to suck eggs but I would suggest you wait for a couple of weeks....hire out a 7 for a few days and then hire out a 6 for a few days...this should help with your...
