Hard rock gold from around the world...

Panned my first speck of gold in a gully just west of the Yan Yean road, using a hub cap off my mark 2 Zephyr about 1971. There was a poppet head on the east side of the road. I think it was called The Golden Steps. I gave the speck to the guy who took me there. Must have been good karma for me.

Is this the smallest cannon ever made. It's 30mm long, the barrel is hollow, and the touch hole goes into the barrel, so I guess you could fire it if you wanted to. A bit of black powder up the barrel, and some on the touch hole and a small projectile rammed down the barrel. That'd be fun...

OzzieAu. Most of these were found way back. When prospecting, If I found an old ruin, or a metal strewn area, I would note where It was, and if I found no gold that day I would go back to the spot and give It a quick run over. My theory is, It's better to go home with a coin or two, than...

Here's what seems to be 3 pennies hammered together. You can just see some letters on it. Someone else on the forum found one similar, but in better nick, earlier this year. Does anyone know what they were made for? School project, bored prisoners, trench art? etc. wiley.

Here's a mangled 1797 cartwheel penny, converted to a washer? I found today while patch hunting in a new area. Plus 4 buttons. No gold.

These coins were found on a tram in Hong Kong in 1973. They were in a little bag on a seat. They are unusual because they seem to have had the edges hammered by hand to make the edges wider. The coins are about 2mm thick, whereas the edges are now 4mm thick. The first coin is a East India...

On another forum there was a debate on whether they were snake buckles, or, swan buckles. So I decided to have a closer look at some of mine. 3 of them have a head on each end. But 2 of them have 1 head, and what seems to be a tail. The 2 headed ones have a design in the centre which could be...

    GPZ7000 settings advice.

I've tried Normal/High Yield on mine, but it's so noisy, I drop it back to General/Difficult. I've always run mine in General/Normal, but now I'm starting to try the other settings. But High Yield is just so annoying to use, I'd rather run it in General/Normal, as that's more stable on my 7000...

    GPZ7000 settings advice.

A few weeks back, someone posted on the forum, that the settings of general and normal were the 2nd best settings on the Z, for the best performance. What I'd like to know is, what is the best setting, as I thought those two were the highest. wiley.

Wiley's coin and relic by-products from 40 years of gold prospecting.

I found these 5 coins while patch hunting yesterday. No gold! They were in a small area of about 20 metres round. All the same depth. Had a quick scout around for more, but didn't find any more. I went back today and gridded the spot, hoping to find a sovereign etc. I gridded the area for about...

    What is this??

aa Could the ring have swivelled in the base? If so, could it have been a winder for a wall clock. These fob watch winders have a swivel where the chain is fitted. Compared to the two dollar coin, my ring seems much smaller. wiley. (P.S. Aussie Farmer, I know you won't be able to resist having...
