    Whites Spp Coil Question

Pulse Induction works by sending a pulse and trying to detect the eddy current voltage that occurs in the target when the pulse is shut off. You cant detect the target immediately after coil shutoff as there is a big voltage spike so you have to delay the sample period a few micro seconds...

    Whites Spp Coil Question

SPP has a fixed 10us delay. I am surprised an 18 is able to successfully run on it A few years ago I tried a older brown bundle wound solid Detech mono 18" on my SL and it needed +12us to work ( i think 15us was ok). unimpressed with weight or performance so got rid of it. 16v is the go !

    Need some advice

For your sake I really hope it is amalgam but I havent seen amalgam naturally form plates. Maybe it does. In the Au:Hg amalgam I have played with the crystals are microscopic & held together with free mercury. You could literally squeeze the mercury out by hand and have it run in a silver...

    Need some advice

Let us know how you go - it would be interesting to find out. Also if it looks like it might be amalgam then go to a gold dealer and get an XRF done. Might cost you $100 but if it is 2kg amalgam that might be 1kg gold so ~33oz ~$80k so dont muck around trying to retort it yourself, just pay...

    Need some advice

Weird ! It would be fairly unusual to find amalgam next to a shaft as the ore from the shaft would have to be finely crushed to a sand before the mercury was added to amalgamate the gold. The crushing & amalgamation both normally occured at a stamp battery or other mill near some water...

Makro Gold Kruzer information and questions

I am refering to "Depth" which is really just signal strength. It is the 5 bars on the display. You will get a distinct zip-zip sound as you wave the coil over a target. If the target is close to its depth limit of detection then you just get the zip-zip sound, a depth bar might flicker...

Makro Gold Kruzer information and questions

Just had an intruiging couple of experiences with my Gold Kruzer.... Now not knocking the mighty 6000( esp as I want one !) but I met an experienced prospector who had just found a 0.2g piece with his 6000 and then saw another similar one sunbaking on his throwout pile. To his surprise it...

    Palmerville Gold Q&A

Hi Simmo, we were distracted by others heading South and didnt get to the 2 places you suggested but thanks for helping. There was quite a bit of debate at the camp of going high vs low and we tried both. plenty of deep detector holes at head of gullies suggest high gold around but in the end...

    Palmerville Gold Q&A

Finished 2w at Palmerville Gold. Took me 10days to 1st gold and ended up with a 0.5 and 1.2 but saw enough to convince me so I'll be going back next winter. Whites Ck Rd is a perfectly good council maintained rural unsealed road. Wide enough for 2 vehicles, white post markers and all crossings...

    SDC Experience

I did some depth testing of my SDC a while ago & whilst 5 sensitivity gave about 10% extra depth over 2 under controlled conditions , I personally found 5 too chattery and doubt I would get that extra depth in real life. Maybe I just need to spend more time at 5 and get used to it...

Seven Mile Diggings Qld. - story about taking care

I have been to Diggings Gully x Yarraman Ck a couple of times. Being truly sand rather than mud, the only way it can be semi fluid is if there is an up flow ie it is a spring with water following a subterreanean path & coming up there. Probable from water still percolating through strata higher...

    Tiniitus and detector noises

You might find a detector with adjustable audio frequency helps if you can find a freq that cuts thru your head noise. Gold Kruzer audio can be adjusted from 150Hz to 700Hz. Equinox 800 has adjustable audio frequency but range isnt specified. SDC2300 has 2 options Hi & Lo tone but neither...

A new QED model is on the way

If you have the resources to code a rock solid firmware update ( like Codan would for military etc) that can with survive install interruption etc and simple EEPROM access to allow user updating it would be a lot simpler & worth the risk to do via downloads. But without those key...

    Using an elliptical coil sideways

Nice !!- I have simple Mak - Frac sandwich combo for home but the binos & NV are the ticket when the vistas are large outback.... and funnily enough as prospectors we are always looking at the ground for the source of the gold - but actually we should be raising our eyes and looking nova

    Using an elliptical coil sideways

Like all coils an elliptical coil is a compromise. If we start with a 12" round coil as the reference & look at an "equivalent" elliptical coil of 14"x9" ( 14+9=23)/2=11.5" ( near enough to 12" ), the much tighter radii on the narrow ends of the elliptical significantly improve small...

What's Magnetic, But Not Picked Up By A Metal Detector?

Just to do your head in, there are a STACK of minerals that will stick to a magnet, of which magnetite is just the most common, followed by maghemite. Most contain iron. Maghemite is often brown but can be grey black like magnetite. It is pretty easy to tell the diff though even if both...
