Has anyone used these maps? Is it worth the money to buy them. Any info would be great. Gold hit a high today of $4062 AUD yahoo
They're a decent guide to where golds been found but not a guarantee it's still there.
Also most of the areas require permission &/or permits for access to fossick, so you need to be aware of that too.

These days one must take into consideration the closures of fossicking areas, forests, etc. So research is a must. In NSW, Qld closures are increasing at an alarming rate due to stupidity by users and Indigenous Cultural reparations. Not sure what is happening in Vic. and the others but I wouldn’t be at all surprised that 2025 will see huge changes in Vic.

Victoria is currently in a fight to retain it's State Forests.
The Victorian Government & VEAC are currently working towards declaring 2x State Forest areas as National Parks & there is another even bigger area being prepped to become the "Great Forest National Park".
This will mean a lot of current recreational, & other activities like firewood collection, will be prohibited or severely restricted. Pretty sad the way this country is heading.

It's certainly sad for the small towns that have a high number of visitors who go to those areas to prospect and fossick, if the government stops those activities a lot of small country towns will suffer, and the stupid reasons that they put forward for doing it "to protect the environment" is just an outright lie. If the National Parks Departments could get away with it, they would ban the public from even entering a national park.

Elderado is a national park at reedy creek and the towns folk had to fight to keep prospecting in the creek as they would of lost all their tourists

The ranger said they are closing tracks at ready creek because they are not an original track and only formed by 4wd drivers so boulders are going across enterances and are going to be regenerated. As they are upgrading mcfeeters and woolshed roads and some tracks and you can still acess the creek to prospect, but a lot less tracks to acess the creek.

Ok I've never heard of these apps, what one have you found to be the best
Each has their purpose. Minview and DIGs are great for researching gold bearing location and prioritising field locations. Trilobite is good in the field. Minview doesnt have an app as such, but you can use it on your phone in the field if you have an internet connection. Minview has a ton of useful layers and they take a while to get set up but you can store the layers you want under My View and you dont have to reload them everytime. https://minview.geoscience.nsw.gov.au/

I have all the stones maps for the areas I've been. For a newbie they are helpful, we've found a few specs everywhere we've been so far. I usually just head to the creeks marked as alluvial deposits.

I'm sure more advanced prospectors research their spots using other tools but when you're just starting out I think stones maps are a fantastic leg up. I use them in the avenza maps app for live tracking.

One thing to remember is just because his mapsays legal ground doesn't mean it is. Not even remotely. Some of his state forest borders are also not accurate. I've been in heaps of areas that I thought I was legal going off his map but since discovering minview realised were not legal.
