Hi folks I'm Brad, I work as anaesthetic technician at the local public hospital and have a gold mad 12yo. I've stumbled onto this place while researching new areas and nearly died of shock at an active forum!

Lost count of how many automotive forums I was on over the years, only one left is performanceforums. Absolutely love forums, hate facebook groups. All the good info is just lost to oblivion hidden away from the Google algorithms! No more!

My family hit Victoria for our first gold trip last year, armed with a gold monster and not much else. I'd booked in for a lesson With a fella named Matt who had a good reputation on some of the Facebook groups I use. Money well spent, found a half dozen bits during the lesson so the monkey was off the back. Quickly discovered 1 detector can't entertain 3 of us and my wife lost interest. Now it's just my son. We've been doing 7-10 day trips to Nundle, dalmorton, drake and Bingara and have picked up bits of colour at all in our little sluice.

I'm upto 0.15 grams now 😂 young bloke wants to sell it 😂

Rarely get to put in any significant time at the creek as the boy either gets hungry bored or both. First solo trip next month, still undecided where. I loved dalmorton as I can sluice right out front of my camp. I'm not not 100% sure that's legal so I'm hesitant to go back. Time will tell!

Looking forward to being a part of this community and learning more. Can't wait to troll the archives here.

Welcome Brad,
Plenty of helpful people and info on here :)
Being in Withcott, I assume youre aware that the closest QLD GPAs are at Durikai forest. Unfortunately sluicing is difficult due to a lack of running water.
I'd recommend doing some research on the Drake NSW area for weekend trips.
I can recommend the Rocky river and its tributaries.

Thanks for the kind words, Brad and a big welcome to PA for you and your son.

Preserving hard-won prospecting and equipment knowledge, keeping it up to date and making it accessible is a key reason for the ongoing involvement of many long-term members here. We recognise that PA's public, searchable archives are an invaluable resource and we aim to keep it that way, on an internet that's become increasingly about locked doors, walled gardens and empty spaces where there were once active discussions.

Hi mate thanks for the reply. Been to drake once and stayed at carters rest. First trip with the sluice and couldn't pan so didn't go too well. Definitely on the list to head back. Stayed at carters rest in Girard state Forrest.

Havnt been to the qld GPA's yet for a couple of reasons. Few people have put me off taking the gold monster out there and like you said there is rarely any water. Nsw regulations for state Forrest suit us better as we can take the dog and generally camp right where I want to prospect.

Not familiar with Carters Rest.
It really is beautiful country down on the Rocky.
Always seemed to get a show on McLeods creek down Long Gully road but it's been a few years since I've been down there and I've heard that McLeods has been hit hardDrake_Rocky river_8.jpgDrake_Mcleods_ Ck (6).JPGDrake_Mcleods_Ck.JPG.JPG

Thanks for those pics, Terry. What a beautiful looking spot - getting gold there would be the icing on the cake I reckon! 👌

What do the stacked rock cairns designate, in the centre of the first pic?

To the best of my knowledge, the locals use them to identify how high the river level reaches during flooding..... as always, happy to be corrected :)

Looks a nice spot. I'm just learning how to use minview and looks like entire Girard and drake state Forrests are off limits. What a joke. Some parts of ewingar are still OK, maybe I'll give that a go
