G'day Guys,

This is a great little area to kill some spare time while waiting for the fish to bite at the head waters of Burrinjack Dam. These fossils are literally lying around your feet while you're baiting your fishing rods. Great way to spend an afternoon with the wife and kids.

Wow! Wal, those are some real beauties!

The shell conglomerate is a very nice find indeed!
Is it a known fossil field? There could possibly be some new finds laying about ready to be discovered and have your name put on them :D

Let me know when you're coming down George and I'll tag along with a couple of fishing rods. The spot is only 1/2 hour away from my place.

Not sure which homestead you mean Joe, the spot i go to is near the Old Taemus Bridge on the "Bidgee". Can only access the fossils when the water is low otherwise they're underwater when Burrinjuck is 70% or over.

I'll take some next time I'm out there mate. Mainly catch Cod and Yellow belly from this spot. ;)

being a man made lake back in the late 1800,s or so i wonder if the area you are in is excavated dirt from creating the lake or is it natural ground,i wonder what they found when constructing the lake

There is no excavated dirt pauly, the lake was just flooded after Burrinjuck Dam was built. A lot of areas along the shoreline have been eroded by wave action with the rising and falling water levels, exposing the current fossil beds. Surprising just how big an inland sea this region once was. The fossil layer is some 100feet thick.

You got to be kidding Paul....Liz go fossicking and only take pictures :lol: :lol: :lol: that'll be the day. I tell her "one" sample of each fossil only ....but if i turn my back, the troopy springs always seem to sag a bit. :eek: Liz has this habit of saying..."Just one more little bit". :|

The spot is about 40 mins drive from Belconnen,

Water has been low for a long time now garnet. All the fossils on the shoreline are well and truly exposed. Let me know if ever your heading this way and i can give you an updated report.
