Hi all, I'm looking for some information on how you go about finding the families of Diggers from WW2. I have a number of Dog Tags that I've found while detecting and I'd like to try to get them to the families if possible. Thanks, Rick

To clarify, they were found at Tinaroo Dam in NQ and there were thousands of Diggers stationed here during the war. I'm not sure if that makes a difference. I am a member of our local RSL so I will ask next time I go for a coffee. Thanks 7.62

Type in nominal roll into google and got to the DVA website
Enter what details you can off the tag and it will give you a start point eg town d.o.b etc

Search for service record by initials and serial number, this will usuall give Christian names and town of enlistment, KIA or discharge details.

Search again with full name details, this can often produce a lead.
Search again with name and town...this can give family, marriage and burial details, surviving relatives

Have traced a few until the trail has gone cold, keen to see what tips others can offer 8)

Thanks for that info. I tried MT's suggestion and found all of them from all different areas. Tassie, England, NZ, Collingwood, Toowoomba, Charbon NSW, WA :Y: . That was very cool to see these guys one of whom was 19 when he joined up all born early 1900's, very cool. I'll see where this leads
