Would gold sink in an agitated bucket of little steal ball bearings or just stay on the suface ? Would everything sink in and agitated bucket of the same size bearings ? Do things sink or float in a vibrating medium acording to mass, specific gravity or shape ?

Ahh there are a whole lot of variables in play there and lm sure there are people here that know a lot more than l do about it, but yes it will sink under the right conditions. Hopefully someone else will explain this better than l can, but essentially it comes down to the type of vibration, the frequency of the vibration, the size of the material, how free the material is to move and we'll yeah other stuff.
Look into pulse jigs to learn about how they work. In a pulse jig they generally use a short rapid up pulse then leave a small time for some material to settle before the next pulse(this happens quickly, but the timing is important). But the other factor with a jig is that it is constantly cleaning it's water to keep the dirt/mud/clay from clogging it up.

All that being said though, plenty of people claim that after leaving their concentrates or samples on a trailer or back of a motorbike for the trip home that all of their gold is on the bottom of the buckets.
Personally l would love to get one of those stupid vibration exercise pads they advertise on TV and see what it does to buckets of concentrates.

just get an old sander and screw it to some ply, or to the bucket its self.

As the bucket fills with concentrates it'll push your vibrating balls out of place and into the stream of flow ,.... so, you'll end up with no balls at all (after a while) !

Gold would sink to the bottom. This is the working principal with seiving for sapphire, they always work themselves to the bottom when the seives are agitated. It's all to do with the specific gravity of each different type of material.

Since you like experimenting G Here's some crazy ideas.......
Been thinking along the spiral wheel and turbo pan....I'm sure I could make a spiral wheel sit in a creek and be powered from the water supply but that's a huge thing to carry so what if a turbo pan could sit pinned with a stake with two little paddles positioned in the stream to put apply the back and forth rotation 8)
Automatic turbo pan ....Hmmm bit slow hey :/ I was thinking about your bucket theory but with a spiral design inside sort of a cross between the spiral wheel and the turbo pan.....Spiral bucket with heavy's trap in the center so rather than shaking a twisting back and forth motion to pull the lights up while settling the heavy's to the trap
While filling with water and pouring off each time, mainly to cut the amount of gravel down before panning out
Just can't think of an easy way to make a spiral bucket without a huge 3d printer

been thinking about what you said. How about getting two pvc buckets, a length of hose and some fishing line. Stitch hose to the inside of the first bucket into a spiral then use pvc pipe glue to glue second bucket over outside of the first, bucket to seal any leakes. Now you have a bucket with a spiral :Y:

One of those collapsible buckets. Half fill with water half classified pay dirt. Spin everything into a vortex, push sides down. Might be a speedy way to concentrate ???? What do you think.

Paydirt might stiffle your pumping action during the retraction and wear out your bucket sides pretty quick, but all things being equal n all, why not just give it a go and let us all know.

Pretty sure they sell them at anaconda, couldnt hurt to try.
Be a good experiment to do over a tub, put say 20 flakes of gold into some dirt and see where it ends up when you collapse the bucket??
