So what do you guys think of the Macintyre Windfarm they are putting at Karara?
Out of all the land they have out there, they picked some good real estate to put some wind turbines on. Must be a windy place. :)

I hope it doesn't affect one of the few GPA's we have.

PS. Feel free to move this to appropriate section mods or delete if it has already been discussed

Climate Change type topics were removed from the forum in the past due to to the varying opinions & ongoing argument they caused. This thread is not about discussing the various sources of electricity or what is or isn't green etc.

Yeah I noticed there are court proceedings going on between the Mining Lease owner , the land owner and the Wind farm company.
And I also noticed the house on Carbean Road with the giant Red Back Spider on the roof has gone...

Any idea if windfarms create EMI? A quick google says this

"Wind turbines may cause EMI via three principal mechanisms, namely near field effects, diffraction and reflection/scattering"

EMI is always going to be an issue even without windfarms as anyone who has used a PI machine can tell you when there has been a storm within 2 or 300k's.

The only time EMI from wind farms is going to go against Building a wind farm is if the EMI is effecting Communication Networks or Government Installations, People wanting to go Gold Detecting will have ZERO impact when it comes to reasons why they should not build wind farms because hobbies are not deemed important enough.

I doubt that any fairly constant EM signal would affect detecting, You are measuring distortion in the field present, no matter what it is caused by. If that field is fairly constant it should not affect your signal at your anomaly point. Even if it were intermittent, you should know that something does not make sense, because your response where you are detecting would be intermittent (that anomaly from your glorious nugget would be on and off and the time spacing would probably be fairly large - perhaps that of a blade rotation). Given that EMI falls off exponentially, I also doubt that it would have much signal compared with your detector response. But I am not a physicist.

And I have not been detecting close to any wind farms - not a large percentage of most goldfields, even in Victoria (only once been near one when detecting - south of Ararat).

I suspect that detecting very close to power-lines, or coal-fired or gas power stations might be as much of a theoretical problem - but I suspect if you were detecting near the latter you should learn some gold geology. 🤔🤔

Maybe if that's going to go we should wait for proof from members who go there and hopefully not waste their time. There's no many areas close to Brisbane than you can do weekends or day trips to.

It's not a theoretical problem. It's real & wind farms throw off EMI from a number of sources.
Mains power lines are one of the biggest & worst sources of man made EMI problems. Considering wind farms have some type of power transmission lines, generators, large conductors (towers), which are all problematic, then I don't doubt people have had EMI issues near to them.
I'm yet to detect in close proximity to any but there are more projects being discussed for our area too.
As said just something else to contend with.

I guess once the wind turbines go up and start producing power we will find out.
So far it looks like its all ground clearing and prep work atm

There is another Issue which no one has thought of, Yes the EMI is a real problem, But Once those Turbines are up and running the Power companies can't have people wandering all over the place with monster powerlines burried a couple of meters down trying to dig faint target signals from those cables, and even miles away from the Turbines people are still going to come across those cables because the power has to get from the turbines to the power stations some how, So where ever they Build them the land between them and the power station is going to be Off Limits which could add up to stretches of Land over 100k's or more,

The Best part would be getting a job digging the trenches because think of how many Big Deep Nuggets you might find, 😆😅😂🤣

Overall it's not just the land the Turbines are On will be lost forever, So will be the Land where the Cables are Burried.

The fossicking areas (GPA) are outside of the wind farm project area: https://www.dnrm.qld.gov.au/__data/...2138/durikai-state-forest-fossicking-area.pdf
(easily compared with the project map posts #3 & 4).
It won't be the easement/infrastructure land lease access or associated infrastructure that will be an issue as such but whether any outgoing EMI affects detecting on the GPA.
Hopefully they build them fairly central to their project area, or even further away than central, giving a good buffer zone to the public land (Durikai State Forest).
Shouldn't affect current GPA access at all.

Looks like the current ML holder is already having issues with the Wind farm company and the land owners.
They did tear up and widen Carbean Road all the way up to the GPA, which could be for laying down cables.
Time will tell.
