I ve got an Aldi one.

Hanging out to give it a run, but theres a fair investment in time to learn how to use the 3D modelling software to be able to make things.

Trying to get time to get on top of that to start with is the battle.

I've been drawing for 57 years, the last 30 or so being 3D CAD design. Making things on a 3D printer is the easy part. :)

That is my part of calling it fun.
It will be a brain exercise before doing my Cisco Training.
Waking up the brain cells will be fun. :8

I've got an Ender 5.
PLA is easiest to start off with learning.
Depending on what you are printing you can get Super PLA or go to stuff like ABS for strength.
It's a learning curve for sure!

You will get to love Thingiverse!

I am really enjoying the challenge.
I see it as an opening curve towards robotics,
Which is actually what they are.

I thought I might have been in a bit of strife for spare parts but every thing electronic is generic.
Assembly was a real pain following the distructions so I hunted up a video. Then tracked down a
schematic for the main board. programming in Merlin is a piece of cake as it is very close to some
of the robotics stuff I have seen or worked on.

After I get it up and running, Fist thing to look at is a riffle design I have been thinking about.
And for those who want to know, Victorian border is only a couple of hours away to some very
nice spots I know of.

Oh and I run EZi pi so I can go to work, and just check in on the print remotely every now and again via the camera.
I have had loads of prints fail at various stages and its awesome to be able to abort the print from miles away.

My latest fave gadget is my 40 watt laser engraver/cutter!!
Same X-Y robotic process but thats another story!!

Aldi printer and the iPad trial CAD drawing application = back pocket quiver

Need to get some free-ware CAD as the monthly subscription = :100: :poop: :money:

After snapping my fourth handle on my 4500. ( I like big coils.) It got me thinking, could a handle be made on a 3D printer? Would It be stronger than the flimsy Minelab units? And, would it be more cost effective to produce? wiley

Hi Wiley save the time and effort just buy a Solid Swinger Handle you wont break it ,you can get them at Coiltek Marybough or Lucky Strike Geelong ,if your not near either of them send me a PM and I will send you one as I make them lol ,dont know much about 3d printing but after making a few hundred handles I dont think it would be an easy process because of angles on the handle, shaft hole, and closing slot, bolt holes, balance button hole, cable grove and on it go's,I thought about 3D a while ago and thought it would end up being a nightmare so I stay with hard wood .PP

G'day P.P. I considered getting one of yours, but thought It wouldn't hurt to put It out there to check If a 3D version was feasible. Is the angle on your handle the same as the Minelab one? Any warranty on them? And, how much are they to buy? wiley.

Hi Wiley yep they are the same as the Minelab one (only don't break lol),and if there anything go's wrong with it that is because of the manufacturing I would replace it ,the cost is $90 including post I have had mine on my 4500 for about 4 years now and is still going strong ,I am sure a lot of the guys on here have them so maybe you will get some feed back from them .PP

O.K. P.P. Looks like that's the way to go. I'll pick one up from Coiltek. I rely on the strap on the right side of the handle of the minelab one when swinging big coils. Would I be able to fit a strap to yours? wiley.

Hi Wiley to be truthful not sure but I think the bottom strap ring would be a problem let me know if you have a problem and I will see what i can come up with .PP

WHILE you're printing Mineallmines green scratch plate, could you make me a 7000 14" coil top protector to protect the top while I'm scrabbling around for shot gun pellets etc, wiley.
