Which mesh to use in Gemfields?

Hi all,

Heading up to the gemfields next month and plan on making a few of my own sieves before heading up.

I've been looking on https://stainless-mesh.com.au/ sieving products https://stainless-mesh.com.au/product/stainless-steel-screening-sieving-mesh/ but still not 100% which way to go. From my research I've read 3-4mm holes are pretty common for up there but just wanting to get some opinions from someone who has hopefully been there already.

G’day mate. I haven’t been up Emerald way but from my experience, I carried a few sieves and the one I always fell back on was my old 1/8 brickies sieve and that way you get the bigger ones and the kids can have a great time looking for the smaller ones.

these are the ones i use
they fit in the top of a standard 20 litre bucket or the 11 litre buckets from bunnings

Thanks mate. I'm wanting to make some slightly larger ones but appreciate the advice nonetheless.

when doing the first sieve of the wash i only use the 1/8" mesh and sieve into a 40 litre rubber pale from bunnings ,it makes it easier to remove the wash when it is time to wash the wash
i put the two sieves together 1/4"on top 1/8" underneath and put 4 heaped scoops of a gold scoop per wash and use a willoughby to do the hard work
i find that the 4 scoops are pretty well perfect and not overloading the sieves and makes the process go a lot easier
