Hi, I,m new to the game and yet to find gold. I,m operating a Whites GMT slowly getting a feel for of it ,finding lots of nails, bullets etc but no gold.I have been working the Waanyarra/Tarnagulla area. The question is do I work on and around the base of the mullock heaps,on top of the mulloch heaps , the side of the mulloch heaps or away from the heaps.I,m only an occasionally weekender so need to maximise my time.

The machine you have is a high frequency vlf detector.

The machine will find really small bits that are sitting on the surface or there abouts.

In saying this do your research first.

I am not talking about being at a Library with 15 books and a magnifying glass where you investigate the goldfields for 90 hours ;)

Most of the info you need are located on Gold Maps. The goldfields you need to look for are the ones that were "rich, with shallow alluvial goldfields".

Then detect around the workings which should be shallow and you should see bedrock and bits of ironstone in many cases.

Rich Areas around small mining areas where the floor is littered with quartz is also what you need to look for. An example of this are areas around Castlemaine
here in Victoria.

Being at the right spot will help. Its a matter of then detecting and finding the gold or specimen by detecting and walking over it.

If you work out a system where you drive for a few hours to the Goldfields then go for a wonder and after 15 minutes you pull out a few nice pieces pls share your methods :)

Hope this helps.
