Here's one for you OP I was told about 2 years back that there is a bridge just out of Jamieson that they were getting good sized pickers and to be honest its a spot I want to go to when I get back into it, I know Kevington was a great spot to sink cans back in the day but I would try your luck down near the bridge. As for how much you will get over a weekend I would be happy with 1 or 2 grams of gold depending what creek or river.. heres 1 example I spent a whole day with 2 mates that prospect in the Oven's river and we did not even find a speck  so yes there is many variables ( and yes that's a true story not 1 speck)
Almost the entire area around there is on the exempt list, and therefore a no go zone. Easy getting good gold when your digging in a place that everyone else sees as off limits.

YES!!! :D

THIS IS ONLY FOR VICTORIA!! :p

Try this for list of rivers/creeks that are NOT allowed to prospect in. :D
Big List, didn't want to add it to this already long post :8

Just another element to over come :D

I view that as like a superannuation package for us in protection :) :D

If you were to dig up material away from the creek/river (like it's old route) and processed that with the aid of water pumped from the creek, is that still considered "working the creek"
Edit, I mean working the material away from the creek so the overflow goes onto dry land.

Hmmm,

Seems very very cloudy here

Not sure exactly Occasional Panner good question.

As far as I'm aware, certain areas require you to prospect in the creek only, I would assume that would be the current running creek.
But other areas that have no restrictions in place would be fair game :D

Maybe someone else on here will be able to clear it up a bit better as I have only prospected in running creeks.

From what i understand the rules refer to the bed and banks of the named water courses.
Digging holes outside of the current stream bed makes an awful mess and only gives more ammunition for the green lobby to shut all areas down.

Yeah good point SW, but if all the workings are filled in then there shouldn't be an issue. I'm not talking about 20ft holes, just something to amuse myself for a couple of hours.
