Smell of a Bush Fire always puts me on edge even though it could be a long way off, it's that gum smoke smell... always rattles my cage and brings back memories of '94

As a CFA volunteer for nearly 30 years now I gotta agree on that....... the only bush smell I don't like.
I went up to Sydney for the 94 fires Dihusky & it certainly was bigger than Ben Hur for a while. I felt for the people who never expected to be impacted by fires that close to Sydney.
Not the place for the feint hearted.
The smell of an old steam loco takes me back to my childhood.

Man, you guys and all the other volunteers were awesome, but when it hit us on Lady Game Drive, there was nobody left, just us, garden hoses and hope. Never got the chance to thank you guys, but it's never too late... Thank you.

As for steam locos, yep forgotten about that, particularly when going through a tunnel, if you weren't quick with the windows it was through everything and mum winged about the extra washing to get the smell out of our clothes!

Top of our drive in Sydney, Lane Cove fires. We survived, others didn't, but indelible memories.

X2 on that smell I haven't had it at my back door but I've been in the thick of it and it ain't pretty. The affects of Black Saturday have many on edge around our parts when there's smoke in the air.

Being a volunteer the smell of smoke in summer gets me worried.

In my younger days family and friends were always giving me bottles of Old Spice as gifts.
I had so many bottles lying around I started selling them off to anyone who liked the stuff.
These days I can't stand the smell of it.

My old grandma used to cook the nicest pies. Apple, blackberry, pumpkin and gramma, to name a few. Her pastry always had a weird grey colour to it.
But the smells and the flavours ............. oh my god do I miss them.
