Hi guys hope you can help me ive just come across a jig set up and was just letting it fill with the rock used in the process but i have read recently that you should use ragging on top of your screens ...was wondering if anyone can suggest a type of ragging
Cheers

Re the spiral wheel. Im sure thats probably a personal thing to answer. I mean, they demonstrably work. Plenty of vids on youtube and on the gold shows and everywhere else showing they do what theyre designed to do. There are alternatives that also work. So again, it might just come down to personal preference I would suspect. Just for the record I have no experience with them. Just saying what I feel would be the case knowing what I know. Maybe someone can corrrect me and give you a better answer. GL

never heard of ragging.. we are not sure exactly of the recovery gear you speak of.. every situation will have very different recovery needs.. :)

The ragging they are talking about is a usually steel but sometimes lead balls, the size of the gold trapped under the balls is smaller than the ball size, steel is better as the gold sinks quicker with the steel balls. The ball layers are usually 2 or 3 thick. The size of the trapped gold is smaller than the ball size. They are used because they lift with the upward water flow and drop quickly but gold drops quicker than the balls. Do a search on "fluid dynamics" as well as "jigging prospecting" You will find heaps of info. There are a couple of gif animations that show the principal in action.

And a photo would be in order. Interested in what you have done. Ken.
