What is this?

I found this rusted thing while gold prospecting few days back. It looks really weird with many holes on the head and grooves on the body. I suspect it is a tap, though i am unsure. I was about to treat it as junk and throw it away when i realized that it was glittery below and has signs of yellowish colour beneath the rust which made it look like gold. Anyone know what this is?

That is a Fountain Tap.
A Fountain is a large metal container that was hung in a fire place for hot water.
They can be quite ornate.

Looks more like a coupling of some sorr to me, it has clear splines on it so chances are it was part of a drive assembly on something??

Yes that might be possible it has several large holes that could be attached to the pipes. However i am curious what it is made of

Probably made of brass if it has been used for any type of fluid transfer

It looks a tap for a wooden barrel ? or rainwater tank

It's a keg tap the little piece on the front is for hitting it into the keg

It is a tap for a keg. The tap handle is always missing because they get whacked with a mallet. One miss hit and.....

I have found a couple of these, both broken. Top image is one that I found and the other 2 are images from the WWW.

If you have a keg that is something good Just think how many prospectors drowned the sorrows and celebrated their eureka moments with the nectar flowing from that tap. its gold to me
