The best find I have ever had was about 5 metres from my car, and that was a 1919 ww1 Childrens peace/victory medal.
It was under some leaf litter at the base of a tree in a heavily flogged area south of Ballarat.
It was a fantastic feeling but still not gold.

Not much to lark about myself mate, not even close to double digits. Tell you what got me hooked though went out with an older bloke swinging an sd2200 (from memory I'd have to ask) they had been out for a few months and as a pup I was tagging along. Junk junk junk it was like 40+ that day and I was already complaining, the bloke is a dig every target kind of guy haha. About 2 hours in he hit a signal that was a boomer and I was excited.

We dug down and hit an ouncer nice rounded nugget with a bit of ironstone big enough to tell it was gold coming out the hole about 6 inches down right next to an old diggers hole. I was mesmerised. I carried in my hand tight gripped all the way back to his ute, I'd never seen such a thing. Took a photo with the old camera (still loading film in those days) holding it up. Still get a rush thinking about it.

My biggest was a 1 and half ounce fond around Mt. Magnet W.A. in 1980 using a Garret Groundhog at about 4" deep, same weekend we picked up 2 more over the ounce and a lot of smaller ones. Gave up prospecting for many years. My latest best is a 23g with a ML 3500 around Paraburdoo at about 15". Wish I had that 3500 in 1980. Cheers Randolph

My biggest is 46 oz and second biggest 15 oz. The 46 came from the Pilbara and the 15 from central west NSW. I have been detecting a while since the 2100 came out, and that helps in the detecting experience part. In the last couple of years I have done little detecting and my biggest last year was a 3 ouncer. Hopefully 2015 with a GPZ will turn up some good lumps.

I found my biggest piece yesterday at 3.3 grams with the sdc 2300. Before that it was a piece of 0.8grams which I thought was pretty big. My total finds since a year of prospecting is 82 pieces for 16 grams. Not very impressive but great fun.

I found a 7.5gm one day and then the next day 12gm but was a year ago and only little ones since , that was in WA now in QLD

With so many people out in the bush and deserts you would think that there would be a lot less to find , but I'm tipping that much, much more will be found due to the new technology that keeps coming.
