That some bloke 20 -30 years ago shoots a random tree in a paddock of thousands of trees and then I cut that tree into pieces to find the slug (and its
vertical)

Having a close look at that there is no impact damage in the rings either.
Only the marks where you pried it out.
That is one heck of a find mate.
And upside down. Did you find the rest of it if so, Did the pointy end look damaged. Any Rifling?

Of dropping off ya subie to the mechanics to weld up a crack in the exhaust and coincidently the the gearbox jams in 4th while on the hoist - $2000+, worst of all I got no wheeels to go gold hunting this weekend -aaaahhh. Wallet stolen 2 weeks ago, just waiting to see what the thurd piece of bad news is heading my way.

years ago when i worked in a small town saw mill we got plenty of bullets in trees . we got one once that was more lead than wood . we kept a slab from it hangin in the mill as a keep sake , this one had thousands of bullets in it . trees that were brought in from where there once may have been a farm building near bye often had been used to hang a target on and many had other metal in them horse shoes and star pickets were the worst the big saws hated them .

This reminds me of a lovers triangle story I watched on TV...a murder show with some Karma.
Not a fiction one either

Brief run down of main points.

Man and woman A are married.
Woman A carves a love heart and initials of the couple in backyard tree trunk.

Man has affair with women B
Man shoots the love heart on the tree with his rifle.
Man kills off woman A (gets away with it.
Man marries woman B

Woman B does not like the love heart and wants the offending tree removed.
Man agrees and sets to work.
Runs his chainsaw through the middle of love heart.

Karma....Chainsaw hits the slug still in tree and it flies back, hitting him in the chest resulting in fatal wound.
