Western Creek Station Qld information and questions

Currently there and it's hot, damn hot
Personally i would say to hot to detect other than early morning or late afternoon.

Thanks for the info bigwave. Now I'm undecided between long gully and western creek. The wife just piped up and said she might come as well, so I think that might mean Western creek, for the showers and toilet.

go georgetown and head to Forsayth the turn to the right
is about 25 km the temp will be hot

If your thinking Long Gully there is a great caravan park in Forsayth long gully home stead is 10/15 minute drive from park. If you stay at park you can also get onto Mt Talbot property. Best of all tavern/ pub/shop on the corner. To top it off powered site.
We do 3 weeks at park and a week free camping at one of the stations.
We do the trip up every year in June.

Hi All
Too hot for detecting?????? what ???
This is perfect detecting weather, now Dec through to Mar are a little bit hot, but the last time I was there in Feb 15 we still did 7 hours a day.
It takes commitment to find gold in these area's, I understand you guy's mentioning the heat may be from the south but I just wanted to point out that its not too hot!!!!

That's a good idea, might stay for a week a Forsayth and have a look around different places, then stay on one of the stations for a week.

I have to agree with Lee, you would have to be from down south if you find it too hot. Myself and wife will be going back to western creek in a few weeks time and I will be detecting all day. Mind you I won't be too far from my esky.

Yes I've been detecting from dawn to dusk also but Phil did mention a school age daughter so I'm presuming young maybe she's not as tough as you Qld folks North of Mackay :| Perhaps Maybe ? That's Phil's decision to make I'd say

On another note Noel and Lurleen at Long Gully certainly make one feel welcome which is indeed nice Guy pulled a lovely specie here the other day 288 grams was indeed a pretty site and he was one happy camper

Don't take my comments as negative, I was just pointing out a different view, I appreciate the heat is not for everyone.
Phill what detector are you using & what sort of vehicle do you have & driving experience? as at Long Gully theres one spot that takes a bit of balls to drive if you know what I mean

No need to do the bad spot, its on the boundary line with Dells hole, up to high you can stop just before this area and walk down to the gully's the hill is pretty pointless as you can get to the bottom by driving in either side and doing a bit of walking, hence its the walking that gets the gold not the driving.

I will attach a map of the 2 if I can might be a bit big.

Well looks like the wife has decided not to come. My daughter is 12, she seems to enjoy the adventure and she's determined.

Gem in I, would be good to catch up. Are camping in long gully ? I'll be up there 18th or 19th.

Not real experienced, found a couple of 0.3s in Durakai forest. I am using a gpx5000 and my daughter has my old ATX. Puts her off a bit as the ATX is heavy for her, but if she detects a little will be OK.
I have a nissan patrol, but never really done any rock climbing.

long gully was on my radar,.3's at durakai seems pretty good, with the exception of last weekend I've been going every other week for over a month and consider myself to be a professional buckshot and lead miner
Wooly's posts on bogga's threads have been a real eye opener.
Just trying to get hold of the Zed before I go (ato just needs to push a button) but I've got a silver navara 2wd that goes where most 4wd's haven't.
Our 14 yr old daughter would have been good company but she will be in china so maybe next trip she can catch up with yours.
aldi is havin a sale got knuckle dusters gotta go but i'll see you up there.

We were up there June this year grass was waist high and it was a bit of a battle the smaller gold in the photos the 3 species are from Clermont on the way up the other smaller gold are from Long gully

The larger one is from Mt Talbot station which I believe you can only detect there if you stay at the park.

My husband has a 7000 but got the larger one with his 5000 using my 14inch evolution coil, only a couple in the photos were got with the 7 the rest I got with my 4800 and 12 inch evolution.
We were there two and a half weeks

Well having a coffee in Clermont on the way back
Great time and already booked in again
Spoke to a bloke who was detecting Mt Talbot and showed me a very nice 48 gram little shiner
GEM IN 1 Don't worry about the Z as a few couples I met the the Mr was peeved that the Mrs was getting more with the SDC
Okay more on that later
