I have recently upgraded to an Equinox 600 which I got for my birthday on the 11th of August.I got a call from a guy I know that works at the local showground yesterday. He had lost his work keys ( every key for every building and gate etc in the showground including a master key)in the slip track which is basically a sand track 3 meters wide and 200 meters long with a steel fence on either side for the greyhounds to train in.He had seen me detecting at the showground before so asked if I would have a go at finding them because his boss was not real happy he had lost them.So I headed out there to have a crack.I asked him where he thought they might be and he said he walked up the middle of the track but they could be anywhere along the 200 meter track as they had to replace all the sand after the recent floods. He had them hanging by a dog clip on his right hip so I assumed they would probably be on the right hand side of the track.I walked 5 mtrs in and got a signal in the middle but turned out to be a ring pull. The Nox kept pinging off the fence with 14 or 15 TIDs, 5 more mtrs in i get a 16 signal just before the 14 which I knew was the fence.Thinking it may just be pinging off the fence I got out the pinpointer and there was something about 1 foot out from the fence on the right hand side. One scoop with the shovel and there they were a big bunch of keys 10 meters along the track. To say old mate was happy would be an understatement. So my first recovery was a success and only took 10 minutes.I left my number with him in case anyone loses something at the showground in the future.

Top effort Eldorado! I bet he was rapt! Good deed of the year, that one!

And happy belated birthday wishes for the 11th too. :present:

Cheers,
Megsy

Top job :perfect:   belated Happy Birthday mate  I reckon ol mate owes you a good few hours on a Friday night when the watering hole opens up again :) let's hope he doesn't read this thread and say you've got 10 minutes   if that's the case I hope you're thirsty.

Thanks RM.There was no mention of a beer or anything. All good though,I was just happy to help out.

Had my first real hunt with the Nox600 today, found a 1953 penny, $6 in Goldies, about 15 cents in 1 and 2 cent pieces and this little badge which reads Defence Dept.Carnival 1918.From what I can gather it was a fundraising badge to raise money for the Australian Comforts Fund to send comforts to soldiers fighting in WW1 such as tobacco, magazines and clothing etc. There was a carnival held between 1st and 3rd of June 1918 hosted by the Defence Dept.Clothing Factory. The badge was made by Stokes.

I think this was a coin that was drilled out for a specific purpose.Cant make out any distinguishing marks though so it remains a mystery.Any ideas anyone?

Thanks Sandta,it was a great hunt with a bit of variety of finds.Life just seems to get in the way sometimes when it comes to getting out so its great to have a hunt like this when you do get the chance.Really scratches the itch.

Little Eldorado and I got the bikes out today to get some exercise,I thought why not take the Equinox out as well.Had a swing at an old swimming hole on the river and scored a couple of silvers in the form of a 1921 Threepence,a 1947 Florin,a 1 cent brown bugger and a mystery brass item.Anyone got an idea what the brass item is?

Nice one Eldorado. Found in an old swimming hole is a dead give away. It's a brass latch from an early 1920's Oggle Goggle box.
Almost always found near water (the wood rotted away a long time ago), and sadly the brass latch and corner plates are all that are usually left to find of this once great piece of entertainment.
