New thread for my 2020 finds.Had a swing at a local spot yesterday after dinner with Little Eldorado, not 2 minutes into the hunt I had a guy approach me and ask if I had found anything yet?He was asking heaps of questions, very interested.Anyway,I got a nice signal and was just about to kneel down and dig it when this guy says watch out.Sitting on the grass was a Funnel Web Spider. Not off to a good start here. After disposing of the spider I dug the target which was a 1953 half penny. So the guy watched me dig a few ring pulls and other trash,he was a bit disappointed when it was just trash.Next few finds were $2 coins and a $1 coin.Last find of the hunt was the Sterling silver ring which my daughter has claimed. It began to get dark so headed home.Old mate reckons he is going to buy a detector soon and get into the hobby.Dont worry I drummed into him a bit about hole digging etiquette and how important it was to leave no trace of your digging.

Bad choice of dig sites today so not much found, but still managed a 1948 Penny in nice condition.26 million of this variety minted, there is another 1948 with a . after the Y in Penny of which only 1.5 million were minted which is considered a low mintage.

Spent a few hours in the field today, found $9 in goldies, some brown buggers,a nice little button with lion and shield design,a St Christopher medallion with Lion and Heraldic Unicorn design on the back, only a couple of meters away was the Cross pendant which was ringing up a solid 26 on the Xterra so telling me it was an 18k gold target (not to be) damn. Now St Christopher was definitely looking out for me because the very last target on the way back to the car was the 1959 Shilling.

Little Eldorado and I went for a walk in the bush this afternoon,no detecting just a bit of exercise. We found a couple of nice relics,a 1940s Dairy Farmers Co-op 1/4 pint milk bottle and a nice porcelain insulator. The insulator was on the track just visible and the bottle was at the entrance to a wombat hole.I remember getting a free milk every morning in one of these bottles at primary school, with a layer of cream and usually warm after being left in the sun by the milkman.

Got out today for a post isolation swing to a spot that has significant history here in town.First coin of the day was a bucket lister,a Gothic Florin.I am unsure of date as it is quite toasted on the side where the date would be.Also found a small coin spill of a 1902 Brittania sixpence and a 1910 three pence.A few brown buggers,a small brass screw cap with a chain attached which I think was probably the fuel cap for a lamp and a musket ball.

Thanks Doc.Absolutely stoked. Its a shame it is not in better condition though.Any idea how to clean it up a bit?

Great score Eldorado..... date is letters on those I think (never found one yet myself)
:power:  :Y:

Awesome florin, I found one in similar condition last year and I've been too scared to try anything other than lemon juice then a bicarb rub on it for fear of destroying it.

Thanks guys.Unfortunately Silver the back is toasted and very worn,I can make out reg:f:d: but that is all.I am not giving up yet though.

Went back to the location where the Gothic Florin was found a few days ago.Wasnt having a great day, very few and far between on the finds but true to form, heading back to the car I got a solid 44 on the xterra and up came a 1853 Brittania penny.Had a problem with the 705, it kept turning itself off. Anyone know what that could mean? The battery icon on the screen was showing full,a bit worried something is wrong.

Greg, I have seen on a few forums that the 705 sometimes has problems with the connections in the battery holder. So if the detector gets a bump it can break continuity, so the detector turns off.

Suggestions include stretching the springs in the battery holder, and putting some thin packing of some kind under the cover to keep the batteries from moving slightly.

Cant quite recall if there is a plastic connector for the battery leads on the circuit board, think there is, but a known issue with the speaker dropping out is the pins not contacting correctly, expect this could also happen with the other connectors.

The fix is to unplug and bend the pins out slightly and reconnect.

Nice historical coins :inlove:

Thanks guys for the suggestions but I dont really want to be messing about with it.A couple of days ago it wouldnt even turn on,but I took it out today for a 2hour hunt and it didnt turn off once. It has about 5 months warranty left on it so should I take it back to Anaconda and see if I can get a replacement?
