This morning I went up to our local Post Office to check for mail, we do not have a mail delivery service, so every few days we check to see what is waiting. I have to west travel along a road called Pine Forest Road and I come to an intersection with Hawken Road which is a cross intersection, As I am approaching the STOP sign that is facing me in Pine Forest Road a car traveling north along Hawken Road did a right hand turn into Pine Forest Road to travel in the opposite direction to me, when he did his right hand turn he did so by cutting the corner by almost a car width on my side of the road, I was far enough back that it was not a problem, but have been abused in the past when I have been making a right turn and stop on the STOP line and close to the centre line because people who were going to cut the corner have had to go around me, but this time as I came up to the STOP sign to make a left turn I saw a truck was behind me so I put on the brakes about 40 meters back and started to slow (speed limit is 50kmh) and then stopped at the STOP sign only to have the horn of the truck blown at me because I stopped, I thought when I looked in the mirror that he was going to hit the back of my car, this not the first time this has happened over the years. So I wonder now just what a STOP sign means and why do we not have the old Traffic domes or silent cop on all of the intersection. I have watched the cars going through the STOP sign at this intersection and about 75% do not stop and some do not slow down much. If a Highway Patrol was to sit there, he would need a couple of assistants to help write the tickets fast enough. Today's new drivers do not seem to care about road manners of what they should have learnt to get a licence. Another rant.
