This morning I went up to our local Post Office to check for mail, we do not have a mail delivery service, so every few days we check to see what is waiting. I have to west travel along a road called Pine Forest Road and I come to an intersection with Hawken Road which is a cross intersection, As I am approaching the STOP sign that is facing me in Pine Forest Road a car traveling north along Hawken Road did a right hand turn into Pine Forest Road to travel in the opposite direction to me, when he did his right hand turn he did so by cutting the corner by almost a car width on my side of the road, I was far enough back that it was not a problem, but have been abused in the past when I have been making a right turn and stop on the STOP line and close to the centre line because people who were going to cut the corner have had to go around me, but this time as I came up to the STOP sign to make a left turn I saw a truck was behind me so I put on the brakes about 40 meters back and started to slow (speed limit is 50kmh) and then stopped at the STOP sign only to have the horn of the truck blown at me because I stopped, I thought when I looked in the mirror that he was going to hit the back of my car, this not the first time this has happened over the years. So I wonder now just what a STOP sign means and why do we not have the old Traffic domes or silent cop on all of the intersection. I have watched the cars going through the STOP sign at this intersection and about 75% do not stop and some do not slow down much. If a Highway Patrol was to sit there, he would need a couple of assistants to help write the tickets fast enough. Today's new drivers do not seem to care about road manners of what they should have learnt to get a licence. Another rant.

Well you were driving aware and left a safety margin. I have done the same and been honked by others behind. Some people just do not get that not every one plays by the rules or common sense.

Only an hr or so ago on my way home and this Muppet just ignored so many rules/regs because they could - got away with it this time but !!!!

2lateagain, you did the right thing, in this day an age everyone seems to be so bloody busy and angry that horns blaring are becoming the norm.

The day you do the wrong thing you will get caught or worse, injured or killed.

Stay safe.

These days you are not safe even doing the right thing. Always the innocent that seem to come off the worse and the fools walk away unscathed.

One of the reasons that I retired was that I hated the 1h20m drive to work and sometimes way more coming home.
Speedsters everywhere, constantly weaving to gain a car length, shooting red lights and cutting others off with a bird and with only very rarely a cop car around.
Guess they're too busy with drug busts, protests and violence etc these days?
Respect for road rules and common courtesy to other drivers seem to be drying up very quickly.
One of the reasons why I purchased a dash cam.
On the wide-open roads outback, many still wave to each other - I like that.

Have the front camera with GPS and back dash cams, have had them for many years in both vehicles, mainly for our own use in case something should go amiss, but have also watched the Police vehicle roll through the STOP sign also. Few years ago while traveling to GT was overtaken by Police vehicle in Victoria on a long straight stretch of the Highway, just him and us on the road and he stayed in the right lane until he went out of sight many Kms down the road and numerous signs stating the keep left unless overtaking, but he could have been possibly in a hurry maybe, which may have given him an exemption to the road rules.

I have a mate who works for NSW fire and rescure part of his work is to cut people out of car wrecks.
One evening not long ago we were sitting on his 2nd floor balcony an watched cars cut a right hand turn at speed.
Driving on the wrong side of a traffic island to save a few seconds ..its a dumb move and an accident waiting to happen.
We counted 9 cars that did it that evening and all doing a good 60-70 kms in a 50km zone..
Idiots like that need to see what my mate has seen cutting people out of cars..maybe they would think twice , then again maybe they are just to stupid to comprahend the consequences of their actions and the poor bugger they hit has to suffer for their stupidity . :N:
