Gt,..I used a full as, teaspoonfull of Citric Acid into 1/2 a kitchen Ramekin of water,... waited for 1 & 1/2 minutes, and gently used an old soft childrens toothbrush to very gently take the dirt and grime away for about 30 seconds,... then rinsed under flowing tapwater, and finally used a couple of pumps of Palmolive antibacterial handwash (the brown looking double pack from big W) to gently rub it all over (straight stuff) just to help balance out the PH level, before rinsing extremely well and patting dry with some toweling material. (Thanks still go out to DJ for the Citric Acid tip,). :D
I used no CLR and no Bicarb at all on the 1948 Shilling,.. and it kept its patina intact. Some silver coins may not respond to this or any method of treatment in the desired fashion (disclaimer). ;) :D

Great thanks Silver. I'm just a bit show on the acronyms  I think they might have come about since I reached that age where my learning is not quite keeping up with what I'm forgetting :|

I've had to soak some silvers for quite a few hours in the "CAB" (lol) mate, doesn't seem to damage them at all, that nice little ring may benefit from the same long soak.

Will do,... right now Heatho. :D
Done. ;)

Hey MB ... you need to let your bottles acclimatise slowly.
The shock from being in the cool underground for so long being brought out into the world has that effect on many bottles.
Its a shame that such a pretty bottle broke but when it happens to bot worth a few hundred .... OUCH , that hurts.

Well the ring went into CAB at 8:42am today and came out just now, so here are the before and after photos 12 hrs later,... full on soak.

Was worn away a bit by the flowing sand over time,... I missed some spending money last time I was there,... no gold rings amongst it anywhere though.
