Went out first thing this morning to a local park. The wire cable didn't give a signal. ?? The cable, triangle piece and bolt are all above ground finds. I went over a mentos lolly paper in a swing and it gave a signial. I went no way, i picked it up and guess what I five cent under it. Lucky it's bad enough with bottle tops.

Found my first ring :p but it was a junkie ring :(

Nice finds guys.

Went out today to a promising site.

I hate promising sites. Had 2 found nothing on both.

Todays site was littered with bits of aluminium and
You could hear the iron in the ground with the G2.

Went out hunting at a good silvers spot I know with my daughter(7) and my old mate and his son(18), we all got a silver each.
Daughter got her first ever coin
91942D threepence after asking if she could use the ACE250, found the signal herself, just needed a bit of help with the retrieval in the rock hard ground.

still looks like it needs a bit more yet, not the easiest coin to clean up.

Went out for a hunt today and came up with a 1945 new guinea shilling and a few bits of an old razor, weather was fine and the sunshine was nice.

sorry the camera is not taking clear photos at the moment(I hope I can sort that out soon.

Sunshine State, it's got a big mower slash on one side though and at first I thought it said 1915,....but 1945 is still ok by me, one of my old spots still giving the odd silver, soft ground while all else is dead grass and hammer and chisel hard.

Haven't seen one of those before, interesting coin. The ground is the opposite down here in SA, you are more likely to be digging in mud! :)

Mud,...I wish(sometimes), you have to be very careful swinging a hammer and chisel when it comes to keeping that target unscratched, you don't even want the dirt to move over it at all so the careful extraction(especially silver) does take a while and some times ends up being the extremely careful retrieval of an old soft drink lid. You can't win them all though.I found this cheapie ring the other day, it was only because I was digging this big old sinker beneath it, as it didn't show up on my settings afterwards.

I think it says made in Austria, but it could say Australia, it has a big hole in under the stone, but I can't find any hall marks on it.

Had a few hours to spend digging today(until I found my silver)and came up with a 1956 shilling and a 1937 half penny(I think), as well as a few dollars and some doodad that I can only think may have been on top of an old fence ?(about 1 foot long).
1406207114_sam_2929.jpg

here is that shilling, it's had a mower strike on one side.

And here is the same shilling after bicarb and then clr treatment.

I was happy that it came up so good regardless of the damage to it, I feel like I am starting to get a bit better at the cleaning process but it still seems to depend on the coins condition in the first place as to whether it's going to be a flash one or not when I'm finished.

Some silvers seem to come up real good with minimal cleaning, whilst other are better off sitting in the collection as is. Still a good find, they don't pop out of the ground everyday. How deep did you manage to ping that silver on the Ace? :)

That was only about 2 inches below the surface Goldpick, but if I'd have already done that spot I would have been going over it again on full sensitivity, that way I would be able to get silvers right down on the eight plus inches region, although the 50%ers would show up as a deep pulltab (but generally the pulltabs aren't too deep) and as soon as I've pulled away a few inches of overburden if it's a good signal they start ringing in just like they should. If the signal gets worse with the overburden removed then I generally leave it be as it's probably a halo effect that's disappearing as the soil gets removed.

It's funny how targets like that get left in the ground, and so close to the surface (depending where it is of course). As you mention, it could have been overlooked as a pull tab target and ignored or discriminated out by others. I gather you are talking about the old beaver tails, and not the modern ones.

The Florin I picked up locally was in an area that had been done over on a regular basis by others, but somehow everyone managed to miss that screaming silver target, and it is within a reasonably confined area, just luck of the draw I guess. Stangely enough, I'm still to come across anyone else working the same areas over the last two years, but have been told by others that they have seen guys out detecting there as well. :)

Haven't had a chance to get these photos on for a couple of days, but here is the last hunt.
Already spent some, but I did have thirty coins(for $10) including two silvers, to my mate with the 305 having Zero to show( he still had fun though)

If I can find an image of that button in its full colour glory I may have a go at restoring it.
Found out it is a military button circa 1900.
Here is a link to a photo of a gilt button.(just scroll down to the bottom of the link)
