Got those two 43's in the same hole(one was still in the plug) and was still looking for the shilling a little voice had promised me earlier on.... but found the florrie instead not too far away(and that was certainly a surprise)... it was a mixed signal (mainly mid tone) and I got some shallow foil out of the hole first up, then on rechecking the hole it was all high tone still and then out popped the florin staring up at me. :Y:

Ok... so the toker thingy
was wrong about this mark.... it's a nothing

whereas this mark says
STG SIL 8)

Old copper ring is smoothed on the edges

fob chain may have been silvered

and I washed those silvers under the tap

Here I was thinking the florin was 1955

but on cleanup turns out to be 1953

then on closer inspection it looks like they musta re-done 1944 to make 1953.... cause thats looking like a remnant 4 there to me
maybe I'm trippin or something

Thats an amazing find. But if you look behind the 5 there is a residual smaller struck 5. Either a mistrike or counterfeit?

Just got back from an early Saturday morning hunt too
you know it's gunna be ok when you find a sunbaker first up hey !

havn't even washed the dirt off em yet so your guess is as good as mine
