Remember you discussing those tyres a while ago, looking to be holding up really well MT. Pity they don't appear to make them for wider rims, or didn't, may have to check again.
Needed some respite from five women gas bagging in the house yesterday, knocked out this little shunting engine.
Finished this off this morning, a mother getting in early for Xmas, one happy child I hope.

Hi Folks
The bush is starting to recover quickly now after the drought, bushfires and floods. Areas were good to detect for a while but now the bracken, vines and wattle regrowth are making things a bit harder every day. By next summer it will actually be worse than it ever was. Swinging the detector is OK at the moment as the ferns are still soft and bend easily but it is a struggle. Decided that a swing arm would improve the situation and take some of the strain off the detector shoulder and arm. Got up this morning with a rough plan in my head and started scrounging what I had at home to do the job. Ended up using some PVC tube of various sizes and a nylon bolt to Complete the build. The rough model took me a little under an hour and a half to knock up. Basically just a bit of design as construct method. Heres the final product.
The swing arm was made from 20mm PVC and had one end pressed around a 4mm flat, orange piece. Used a hot air gun to Soften the PVC. Shaped the end and drilled a hole for a rubber grommet. This in theory would be a shock absorber come universal joint. The centre was drilled to suit the 8mm nylon bolt.
A bracket was also formed using a cut piece of 50mm orange conduit.
The join seemed to work quite well. The rubber grommet will be the wear item that will be simple to replace.
A simple handle from an off cut of ebony was turned up, oiled and glued in place.
Job done. Now to go and test it in the field.

Took the swing arm out for a test today. It worked a treat. Made it so much more comfortable to swing the detector. It actually worked so well that I wore a hole in the skid plate. The two smaller bits at the bottom were jagged at the end of the day with the SDC.

Had a husband and wife trucking team want a model of their road train for their office, finished it off this morning, approx 2.3m long.
