Hi everyone,
So I bought a metal Detector and was would like some tips please
In thinking of going to castlemaine bushland and have some fun, my question is where to start, how far in the bush do you walk into, like do I venture a couple kms into it
Totally amateur here, any advice greatly appreciated

I'm from the west and don't know the area. I'd start with the Government supplied maps displaying historic gold (if you seek gold) producing areas. Here we have Geomap, I don't know what your local maps are on but you could download Australian Geology Travel Maps from Trilobite Industries. It's not as detailed but quite suitable to get you on the right spot in the bush.

If you go inland from the road take a gps tracker with you as it doesn't take long to lose sight of the car-plus the vandals robbing your vehicle.

Gold maps of the Castlemaine area by John Tully and Doug Stone are available at most prospecting shops.
