Thought I'd share with you guys the old mans project bike. She's a 6 cylinder 1981 CBX 1000 bored out to 1351 and worked like crazy. It registered 204.5hp @9.800rpm on the dyno before the new exhausts went on and the old man is expecting another 15hp increase.

As per one of the video descriptions "VF1000R front end CBR1100 rear end, 33ml CR carbs hi lift cams 220 hp at the rear wheel".

He's done a little more work to it since these videos were uploaded so I'll post an updated one when it becomes available.

Any CBX owners among us? Feel free to share your bike for the old man to drool over, and yes he does have a mullet

Classic bike - 6 cylinders, should go like a shower of the proverbial........... are you going to update suspension, brakes.mbe the chain too ? that is some serious horses lurking there. sure like to get my 84 kwak gpz 900r [ ninja a1 model]up and running. only 115hp but that's enuff to run down to the shops. :D ride well.

dont worry about the mullet.....

I give him 11 out of 10 for the rebuild and an extra 2 out of 10 for the mullet

he is way in front.

If he felt like upgrading , he could advertise that for sale in japan with a ticket price of $ 80,000 or more and probably get a sale

awesome.

nice one.. I have a 1977 z1000 that I built some time ago.. out to 1428cc with 2 oversizes left...it makes 175 +rear wheel horsepower in soft road trim and most probably 200-250 +hp at the crank.. if I fit a turbo it will go out up to 400 +hp.. I have seen an early turbo'ed 1428 zed that made 417hp rear wheel hp on the dyno.. the young guys on their modern blasters get a huge shock trying to breeze past grandads old bike. :)

The suspension and chain have been upgraded and I believe the brakes are already underway.

Nugget,

You have one of the cool dads!

Kawman,

............until they hit the first corner or under brakes!

Remember the old 3cyl two stroke 750cc triple? Went like a rocket braking and handling were an after thought! Good times!

Yep.. have to do some mods on handling and stopping as part of the job.. :)

I can see;

copper O-ring head gasket
honed barrels
High comp high top pistons
shaved / decked barrels

are the cams also highlift or race spec ?

hope you have fun tuning all those carbies.

allow half a day of quiet time to do that little chore ;)

are those standard studs through the barrels or aftermarket with a higher tensile rating ?

this is not a dragrace forum so I will not go into bike building.. this engine has had a lot of money spent on every possible top shelf and hand made part we could think of.. it is a detuned drag race engine built to be ridden on the road...it is a blast to ride... :) Sorry nugget not trying to steal your post.. :)

The old man had an 850 triple some time ago and I remember a bloke coming around one afternoon to test ride / buy it. He sped up the road and after attempting to negotiate the first bend he slowly turned the bike around and came back, said something like "if I buy that bike I'll end up killing myself". Apparently if you gave this thing a little throttle mid bend it would try to stand up straight, nearly threw the guy off. He arrived on an XR 600 from memory.

sounds like he sold some bikes... I kept mine.. they were worth nothing at on time... but now they have gone up in value a lot and are a large part of my retirement plan... having fun with my investments.. when I get to the point of running out of dough I will sell one for cash that the gov will get no taxes or fees from... ;)

Yeah he sold a few over the years (upgrading and whatnot) but still has several classics that he cherishes.

nope, no CBX in my shed, but i have a 93 mdl FJ1200 sitting on the shed floor, slapped on a set of alloy hindle pipes, she is mostly black, handles like a prawn trawler and sounds just like Gooses bike outa Mad Max. Love the old school.
On a lighter note i think we should start a donation fund to the Forum for Nugget to grow a MULLET, good way to raise some coin for Australia's best forum
