This poor thing was running as fast as the rest of the mob across some of the crappest ground. :/

Looks like a broken ankle that has healed.... :/

At least He/she wont be running away from you now that you have it tied up... ;)

LW...

Nah... don't think it was broken, I think it was born with some sort of deformity. That's his hind legs. The front hooves were both the same as the rear right one and splayed.

Another angle.

Still, it is interesting to see how hooves harden after the floppy mess they are when they are born. In the picture it looks like the top harder part sends the inside hoof down instead of out at an angle.

Do they do corrective surgery on hooves like they do toenails?

a good farrier can correct a lot of hoof problems, but that horses fetlock (ankle) is screwed. If it is a genetic disorder then you dont want that gene being passed on.
If it is from an old injury it will give the horse bigger issues as it gets older

They are tough out here.
You have a horse that can run flat out on crap rock strewn ground without shoes and can live off limited food and water and thrive.
Some magnificent examples out here that wouldn't look out of place on race day.

See some with big mulga stakes embedded in them and I shot one once that had a healed up hole in its rear leg that I could poke my fist through.

Have much respect for them, just a shame I can't get more homes for foals.

madtuna.. you have a huge heart and your compassion for animals is to be commended.

I love animals but hate seeing them suffer and (as a Nurse) I totally understand the concept of euthanasia (and NO, I don't wish to start any posts about that topic on here).

I really enjoy reading all your posts.. very informative.

I have no idea whereabouts you are in WA, but it looks like tough country from your pics and I will ask the "Rain Gods" to look after you.

Cheers Annie :)

Why thanks you Miss Annie :flowers: and Miss Goody :flowers:
But please don't let my rugged handsomeness and my fluffy feel good pictures of dead horses lead you astray. Under all the BS I write on here I'm actually a complete ******* :D

Miss Annie I live on Erlistoun station about 400klms past Kalgoorlie.

Thanks for your reply. *******s are my favourite people..as long as they're honest about it.

I'll pencil in that area for my retirement trip in just over 4 years....unless I find a big nugget first...in which case I'll PM you and say "put the billy on" ha ha ha!
