After 18 years prospecting for gold in most states except NT & Tassie using almost every contraption from expensive detectors to just a pan , I'd like to know what equipment you think gives the best returns for the amateur , not concerned about the extra effort required .

Could list all the things available but I think you get my drift :)

My 2cents worth would have to be a trommel or large type highbanker, if i had spent the amount of time digging instead of swinging (in the right areas) i would have a lot more in the jar thats for sure................(my personnel beliefs only) 8.(

Thanks for your input , this has been my experience , although I've found a few bigger nuggets the time spent using just a detector is just not viable to pay for a trip with all the combined costs & return with a profit !

A gold pan would be my choice for any amateur, coupled with some research. Results are pretty easy to achieve and you can tell alot about the area your working from a few dozen test pans.

A sluice and a pan.
Shovle, a few buckets and a 1/4" screen
But the most important thing is research and have fun doing it.

Thanks all for your thoughts ,

New type of unit will be seen this winter , hand operated with the ability to work wet or dry & do what dreams are made of ;)
