starting the learning curve

Hello everyone, I'm Mark from Coffs Harbour . I've beening thinking about getting into gold detecting for a while but up until now haven't had the spare time. now the kids are off our hands gold detecting looks like a great way for the wife and i to enjoy the bush and get out for a walk and some exercise. I haven't told her yet about my great plans and she doesn't love the bush like i do. Have just read a post by maccatuna on how he uses the Gold Monster 1000. Very interesting, noisy but seems to make sense. Which leads me to a question. Is the GM 1000 a good unit to start off with or is there another detector out there for about the same money which is better? thanks . Mark
