Hi there, I am totally new to prospecting, so please forgive my lack of knowledge and my asking of what may be obvious questions. So just the basics about me, I live in NSW in the Wollongong area. I have no experience of prospecting or the equipment and don't know anyone who does. The last time I picked up a detector was as a kid, and that was a very basic unit. I have been reading through the net reviews and have made a decision....... I am planning to buy the Nokta FORS Gold Plus as a starting point, not sure where from yet, I was hoping to buy local but I'm having trouble finding a supplier local to me. I figured local would be more useful to iron out my screw ups on using the unit. Another question I wanted to ask is....does anyone know of any clubs or groups that are based in Wollongong area I could join to gain some experience and knowledge. Actually any info or ideas would be greatly received. Thanks

Welcome Sawfly,
You will find a wealth of information in this site. Keep an eye on the members meetups section as other members regularly post where they are going to be detecting and invite others to join them. I have only recently started to get out and about detecting hand have met a few of the other members of this site and have learnt a lot from them and they are decent blokes as well.

cheers

Bob

G'day Sawfly

Look up Nenad, he's a member here, I'm sure he sells Nokta detectors.

I'm in Wollongong also and also starting out. Unfortunately for us it's a bit of a drive to get to the gold fields. I have a Minelab SDC2300 and highly recommend it. I call it the 'Birdshot Bandit'.

The Illawarra Lapidary Society though not specifically a detecting group is a good place to meet rock hounds and learn about geology.

Wecome m8, yep the minelab sdc is a weapon I wish I had in my arsenal. Make your first investment the cheapest. Look after it and you will get a good return. Have a look at the member meet ups. Post a time and area your keen on.... and see what happens m8.

I am very new too - Its a minefield out there lol. I am in the Central West and there is lots of gold out here but the secret is where to find it. I am off to a disused mine over Easter and go over some old diggings. A tip I learned from this site.
