A few years back we were playing in a creek with the kids and found heaps of gold specks that was so soft it smeared when you rubbed it between your thumb and finger. Is this gold any good and if so how woulg you collect it ?

 4 ton of soft gold later O:) :rainbow:  , with the cry ofWe'll be R I C H being drowned out by copious tears of anguished sorrow ! 8) 8.(
.
the maybe is infintesimally smaller than we think (bugga hey)
But ain't ya glad there's no big stockpile bought about by blood sweat and tears in this case. ;)

Good question MelBen

They do say that all that glitters is not gold, so sorry to say it is Mica coming out of the eroded granite. The good thing is that things other than gold glitter, and that area could also produce some topaz and smokey Quartz as well as the sapphires you were looking for.

Good luck with the chase.

I'm not sure its Mica, i know it is not gold but i often catch some yellow in the dirt I dig in NQ. When you press/rub it on the bottom of the pan or between the fingers and it breaks up does it leave a smear line like clay would? Probs slatey clay... worth mentioning often found with the gold i find in the pan
