Hi everyone,
My name is Carlos, I went to ballarat for a few days because my wife had wanted to go to sovereign hill for a few months, anyways panning for gold in that little river and checking out the gold rush history got me interested.
I bought a second hand gp 3000 and have been out 3 times now just in the creswick park and I love it, no gold yet but heaps on coins buttons bullets and suspicious stones.
I would like to take my wife and son out soon because all she sees me doing is research and talking about all if your posts on this forum :).

Glad I found this site and am looking forward to learning about this history and hopefully finding some gold soon.

Welcome Carlos, I'm in the same boat as you mate!
So much to learn on this forum and my wife knows exactly what I'm doing when I'm on the iPad!
Remember to not be shy!! ask questions, as the experience and knowledge of the members
Is mind blowing, and are always willing to help out,
Enjoy it mate,
BigSam

Welcome to the forum Carlos. The 3000 is a great detector to get you into this prospecting hobby and with the right research should serve you very well. Hope the forum adds another dimension to your research, as I'm sure that by mingling with the guys on here you will gain a lot of info not available in the standard textbooks.

All the very best of luck out there in the paddock and hope the coil swings over many nuggets.

Cheers Wal.

Thanks guys for the welcome, really enjoying the vibe this forum has.

I have taken my detector out a few times and have found a few Chinese coins, some old buttons, bullets and a lot of old nails. I was loving it as it was and was looking forward to finding even a spec of gold. Yesterday I decided to check and clean some of the other material my detector picked up and to my amazement/surprise I found 3 little pieces of gold covered in tough dirt, totalling 3.2 grams. Haven't been able to stop smiling.

Mate I learnt the hard way but as I read through the forum posts there's so many things to learn. I think I will be purchasing a camera with a gps imprint for each photo, that way if I mistake gold for rock I can go back and thoroughly search the area.

Hehh cos, get yourself back out to that spot and grab as much of that tough dirt you can get your hands on  If you need a hand cleaning it I've got a couple of stiff brushes and can offer a helping hand :D

Good luck next time you're in that area,

Cheers Wal.
