Reading this, Sounds like gold is really hard to sell....
Agree with GGA - it's not hard to sell at all. If your desperate some jewellers will buy it although in my limited experience will only offer a scrap type value i.e. from memory last time I asked at a jeweller that had a sign in their window they quoted me $35/gram or thereabouts - I kept my gold. Gold Buyers in shopping malls etc. are about the same I believe?
eBay is a good option for smaller lots & easy enough - just include in your price enough to cover things like their fees, PayPal fees & insured/registered postage. About $60/gram or more isn't unusual. Forums like this are also a good & relatively easy avenue to sell natural gold nuggets.
The safest option for larger lots is a refiner like Peter W Beck but they have a size/package requirement.

:8 ....whatever the buyer thinks it's worth to him?

Currently refined value is around A$53 per gm. Seller could start there and negotiate i guess...

Too big for a jewelry bit, no particular visual shape and too small to expect a premium beyond RP, but the right buyer may pay more.

Thanks for the opinion Gypsy , plenty of that size ' many bigger & smaller were found .
Negotiating to open the area up again as a pay to prospect area , still over 85% of the area untouched .

When possible it will be on an invite only .

Good for you bloke....jealous.

Just an aside here, but if you learn the skills required, and turn the 'smaller' bits into jewelry pieces, you can get anything up to triple the value if the item is 'unique'....

If your in the west NSW you might try Greche here;

www.cwpsupplies.com.au

He has bought gold in the past at a 'reasonable' (not necessarily best) price as well...
You will mostly always do better selling to private buyers as those in the trade will want to see some profit for their investment.

I don't believe this guy...the meathead has sold both nuggets to the same guy after me ripping it up him for selling one to him for peanuts and only got $700 for both.. I will not have anything to do with him from now on for not offering them to me for that price 8.(

Those nuggets still look off to me.
Way too shiny, even in the crevices. I wouldn't have touched them based on the pictures provided.

they were real mate.. I don't do doggy business either.. If they were plated copper for instance the gold will not plate in the deep crevices and be very easy to spot the fakes.. I had them in my hand and weighed them... they were way to heavy for anything but gold... At any rate they are now in the possession of a very hard dealing/thieving jeweller and we all missed out :/

Calls to mind..."A fool & his money (nuggets) are soon parted..."

Sorry you weren't able to make a deal with him kawman....guess he's not a mate (or brother of) after all, especially when you exhibited a desire to buy them at a more reasonable price.

Good luck to bad rubbish...

GGA

Hi kawman,

I'm not saying outright that the nuggets were fake, only that they looked polished enough to give me pause. If I had warning bells ringing, other people might have been suspicious too, which would have made the nuggets harder to sell. If I'd been interested in buying nuggets, I would have insisted to test them myself first, based on looks alone.

I hope it makes sense.

in funny sort of way we all learnt something from this weird event.. I will most likely never get that close again to a rippa buy... next time I will make an offer that will get me punched out for being an axxhole... :/ I never thought he would sell at those prices, nobody does.. :)

Needing a dollar will bring about out of character decisions. :|

Hey There :)

Im a newbie to PA forum so apologies if this has already been brought up but couldn't find it anywhere.

Does anybody have any experiences selling gold in Brisbane to goldbuyers/dealers/refiners? Have about 5oz to sell that the old man dug up back in the day.

Never dealt with this type of thing before so just don't want to be ripped!

All advice appreciated!

Hi to all,

Selling Gold.

So far I see there are bullion sales.
I don't have a gas axe and a crucible neither am I up to this amount of gold x weight yet!

There is Ebay specimen gold sales.
Sales are being made, but Ebay (and PayPal) is too expensive?

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/172555801192?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

Interestingly, that sale was approximately $54 per gram

There are large (wholesale retail?) gold brokers in Melbourne.
Might I use their services and the question is - do they offer a realistic price?

I think I would like to know of a regional gold dealer on a personal and ongoing basis.
I wouldn't mind a drive to a pub for a coldie and an easy transaction!

So I ask "where might I sell my gold and what avenues do some people use?"

Thanks in advance. I appreciate it.

Steven.

im interested in a few nuggets mate,pm me a weight, photo and price you want ? nothing bigger than 4 grams though

So in my dreams I have collected several (kilo) grams of gold and I want to sell it to recoup what seems to me will be several K for this new found passion of mine. How do I go about doing so? And how do you know if it is 18 carat or 14 carat etc. I am loving this forum guys. The links, the information and the camaraderie are wonderful. Mac :)
