Just curious...
But does anyone here use this?
I guess what I am getting at is that you may know a patch, reef, whatever, that you have been coming back to for years.
But say last Tuesday (for example) there was a little earth tremor there?
Would it be posible that it would shake things up a little, expose new ground, etc.
If you check out the data there is a little earth tremor near you, where ever you are, about every couple of months...
I am not yet allowed to post links so you will have to go here by yourself: (Add the wwws and stuf)

Just a thought....

I'm out at the Yarra Valley, and a little bit of info was make public about a recent couple of tremors. It was rather interesting to see that it did follow a kind of old gold / reef line, but then went off into another direction towards Coldstream. The vid I saw suggested that was meant to follow a granite belt, but it was quite a fair distance off it for some unknown reason, like it could have found a new plate to crack along! I'm sure there would be some evidence somewhere about the region, but it's many kilometers long, wouldn't know where to start apart from maybe its origin looking for a landslip or similar.

G'Day All

The short answer is that earthquakes in Australia do not necessarily shake much up at all. While gold reefs are more often than not associated with faulting they were formed at great depths where hydrothermal solutions can move into those regions and deposit gold and other minerals. Surface earthquakes don't do much and as Australia is essentially flat there is little chance that the quake will cause enough of a ground shift that would expose new reefs. This is a different thing to earthquakes associated with active volcanic areas or in mountainous areas. Some largescale mining can actually cause small earthquakes as the local area adjusts to the changes stresses released from the removal of large amounts of material.
