I know a lot of people have been booked by the tax collector wrongly ..the tax collector has told them the trailer must be attached with a rated (yellow).D shackle..which is ********..the legislation clearly states that the trailer must be attached with a chain..That's it...no mention of shackle..South Aus..that is..

Really wouldnt surprise me.
was driving to work one morning, and the boat in fornt of me had the jocky wheel down, and the engine down, skeg was only a few cm from the road, excellerated and pulled up beside him, hire car and boab hire boat, put my passenger window down. The driver was on a mobile phone, I was in work clothes, uniform, loooks a bit like nt police, and the driver drops the phone on his lap, and stares to his front, I try yelling and getting his attention, and he pretends not to notice me!
His passenger however realizes what im on about and explains to the driver.....

I once sold one of my boats to this bloke and i went through how everything on the boat with him on the first day but the following day when he was picking it up i had to be interstate so my wife was there to do the hand over. I was getting phone calls all morning because he didn't know how to collapse the jockey wheel, fix the chain etc etc. I dunno what happened to him but i wonder how many of these people are out on the water or towing with no idea of what they're doing.

Its a pretty scary thought really

I remember being young and silly,... hiring a car trailer,... no chain on at all,... small ball on the fourby ,.. found out at the lights that the trailer was for a big tow ball when I drove off and the trailer stayed there,... that was pretty embarrassing I'll tell ya, coming around and reversing across the traffic islands to get back in to hook it up,... got a lot safer really quickly for some reason a little while after that(still towed it home with the small ball though,... just very slowly and with a chain on),... if it had of come off while I was driving it could have been a tragedy. It was the bunny hopping at the lights that made it slip off.
Even so,... being young and silly is no excuse,.. they would have jailed me had I killed someone.
One of those life moulding events that make you extremely safety conscious. :|

Ever see the u tube clip of the big boat that wouldnt plane?
Idiot launched it still on the trailer! He backed it down the ramp, disconected the trailer from the car, jumped in his new boat, and off he went, trailer and all....
