Rock identification

Hi guys,
Had my first go at detecting today and found a rock that sent it singing. Have no idea of what it may be. Could anyone give me some pointers. Cheers

Nice photo, and welcome the the world of detecting, no going back now regardless of what this is ,... even thinking it's gold has the ability to start a fever.

A hotrock Gumby, probably hematite or magnetite. Definitely some form of iron.

Thanks TGW. Found plenty of other hot rocks today none had flecks of gold like this one has.

drop it into HCL and leave it for a week. You might be surprised at what shows up.

Mate if it has flecks off gold wrap in some cloth and hit it with a hammer, then do as mentioned above,if it shows gold then drop it in HCL for a week or so. Sometimes gold comes in ironstone lumps like that one.

Cant hurt to try. If you think theres gold in it, at worst youve used a bit of acid. At best more shiny's!
