Well tonight is our first stop.
We are just out of St George on the Balonne River sitting by the campfire.

Was wondering if anyone can recommend some nice places to visit along the way (for the gf) and some nice places (gold ridden) for myself :D

Unfortunately i was flat out working on the patrol getting it ready leading up to the trip and didn't get the time to research anywhere.

So far i have seen cotton fields and roadkill. :|

I have the SD2200 and panning gear.
Any suggestions are appreciated!

Glendonn near Toowoomba. Charters Towers area. Georgetown/ Forsyth. Depends how far north you go inland, but Hodgkinson near Dimbulah then into Cairns or keep going north upto the Palner then back down to Port Douglas. There are a few spots you can go to on the way back south. Etty Bay is one beautiful beach.

Depends on how much time you have and what your looking for. Daintree is awsome..

Have a safe trip

Cheers Tone

Thankyou Tone.
We are doing a dive (pending weather) at port douglas and staying there for 5 nights.
I want to do a big day at the Daintree and surrounds also.

We are then heading to Frasier Is for a few nights on the way home.

Will google your suggestions Tone, i've talked her into a full day of prospecting on the trip ( + a few lunch breaks with the pan hopefully!)

See if you can do a night walk up in the Daintree. We did one a couple of years ago and it was fantastic. Glow in the dark fungus. Croc spotting. Very interesting if your into that.

Cheers Tone

Carnarvon Gorge is fantastic, one of the best places I've ever seen. Anyone who has been there will agree. Hope you have a great trip.

Tinaroo dam on the way through is a beautiful place to visit ! has Barra over the metre if you fish ,nice camping areas etc etc. b'tween Atherton and Mareeba on the way to Pt Douglas . Turn off at Tolga . :)

It feels good to hit the road, safe travels Reeks.

If you have the time I highly recommend doing a loop out west to Rubyvale for a pretty coloured stone and Clermont for the yellow stuff.

Otherwise Charters Towers is not much of a detour, although I have not chased colour there, others on the forum have.

Gympie, just south of Fraser Is., has a GPA and the river has been known to produce yellow at times. Have heard there is supposed to be a good museum there as well.

Enjoy.

Thanks guys for all the suggestions!
Heatho- i was heading out to Canarvon Gorge today and realised i didn't have enough diesel to venture on so i turned back and had a bite at the small creek not far after you turn off.
Had two pans and got a spec so that made me happy. First qld gold!

Staying at Emerald now and hopefully have a swing at charters towers tomorrow or clermont.

And for the fourby geeks out there im getting 12.45 L/100 in a 25 year old 4.2 turbo diesel patrol which im pretty happy about. ( intercooled, 18psi, 35" goodyear Mtr kevlar, 5 inch lift, arb deluxe bar, winch, fridge and loaded with the Mr's cloths- farq me heaviest thing in the fourby!

Thanks guys
Reeko
