Hi all, a few years have past and I decided to go back to Blackwood and revisit the mineshaft that gave up a half ounce nugget for me, took a buddy with me, he had his 4500, I had the pick, we both had head lights and we were in there!! first thing I notice is that this mine shaft has been getting some visitors, and very recent. Went straight to my lucky strike spot to find that it now was a larger hole in the wall than when I left it, someone else must have got lucky too, we then went about slowly & systematically covering every inch of that mineshaft, we did get a faint signal, managed to pull a piece of ironstone and kept it for crushing at the end of the day. The detector was very quiet for the rest of our stay in that shaft, oh, except for when a jet flew over, we thought ****, that interference came through the ground!! AT the very end of the shaft, we found that someone had chizelled into solid quartz, the outer diameter of the hole was about 8 inches and the cone shaped hole went in about 8 inches, think there has been a couple of good bits come out of that cave!! We then went and did some normal detecting, but only finding a miners button, got back to the car and crushed that rock, threw it in the plastic dish and did some panning, got 3 specks of gold that would not have been any bigger than flea droppings, but they are now in the speccy container. cheers Frank

Nice work Frank
It sometimes pays to revisit old areas of success with a few fresh ideas & some up to date equipment. Pity someone else has beat you to it.
I recently took the brother of a prospecting friend of mine to an area that we had some luck with a few years back. Didnt find a thing on the areas we had worked previous but found that the creek further upstream that was formally choked with blackberries has been sprayed out and is now accessable. I returned a few days later and did a bit of panning, got a few colours & one small picker for my trouble. So the day wasn't a total waste. :)
