Thanks for going to the trouble to look into it Grubstake, I can confirm the Hebel bricks are available from Aerostone, in limited numbers though. I just bought two over the phone, a 600x200x100 and x150 block for around $22. I'll go out and pick them up tomorrow and carve out a kiln or two.

By the way, for those interested I've found you don't need two torches in these kilns with the new gasses - I've got a single Hot devil torch running MAPP gas (compared to butane) and I can melt down an ounce or so in a matter of minutes in my current bodgy kiln. And not only melt the gold but get it way hot enough to pour and cast quite fine jewellery without solidifying too quickly and blocking the mold.
