Hello forum,

I've noticed a few times on this forum a few references has been made to specific dated coins, and that certain coins of a particular year have much more value than other exact same coins of a different year

I can't remember the term used to describe these coins and am having trouble googling any information on the topic to get an idea of what coins to look out for in that 1/1,000,000 shot

I've always loved coins for some reason, though my collection mainly consists of modern coins from almost every country in the world aside from some middle eastern countries. So the interest is there, the knowledge of a proper coin collector is not :p

Any help would be appreciated :Y:

The main 2 i know of this the 1930 penny and the big one everyone wants to find is the holy dollar

Three key dates in the Australian halfpenny series are 1915, 1923 and 1939 (with the kangaroo on the reverse).

There are quite a lot of key date pre decimals, any coins produced in a year with a low mintage is collectable and worth more than others with higher volume mintages.

Hi if you can get a McDonalds coin book you will find what coins are rare
Hope this is of some help.p.s a 1932 two bob in good nick is worth a mint

Get on to a website called Bluesheet. Has every coin ever minted in Australia right up to moderns of last year. Lots of info for free and more info if you subscribe. All info, mintage numbers population of each and what grades the lot. We have lots of rare coins in aus infact some of the most saught after in the world. 1930 penny proof sold for over 1 million last year and a 1923 Sydney Full sov in MS65 sold 3 weeks ago for $106,000.

Hi Mate

If you go this site you will find you can get a cd/dvd of all aussie coins. I use this as my bible and have dealt with them for over 20years. I have invested thousands with them in coins and Have also sold many back to them over the years . I am a serious coin collectoe with thousands of varieties of aussie coins mostly pre decimal. My best piece is waht is called a 1931 indian die dropped one penny. It is rarer that the 1930 and costs less. I paid roughly $12,000 for mine. Here is the link below. Scoll down to the bottom of this page and you will see the dvd edition of coin web. $19.95
