After a trip out to an old goldfield last Saturday and finding a few interesting bits I thought I may as well start a thread with some finds.
We were detecting a gully where they dug out the reef and up around some deep test holes on the side of the gully I had a 10m2 patch where there were around 10 targets, I found some old rusty nuts, a miners button, small horse shoe that turned out to be a boot plate and a strap or belt buckle. We left more targets in the ground as time was getting on so will dig them when we return.
I was using my Makro Gold Race but a friend is buying it off me soon and I'll pick up an Equinox 800 in a couple of months for relic, beach and coin.
Back to the pics, I had 1 item that was bugging me as to what it was, noticed today it has a slot running where the red line is (like a roll pin slot) and after a good search it turns out to be a cut throat razor without the blade which would have slid into the groove, it seems to have a tarnish on it and I've tried scrubbing it with steel wool but it's stubborn, any suggestions as what to soak it in to remove the tarnish?
